Not risking a physical copy!

I want to play as soon as possible and guaranteed if I get a physical copy, it will take 3 -7 days to arrive after launch day :p

Amazon have it "guaranteed" for release day, I have prime so can do that.

Still debating, doing my nut in!

*edit* they also said that for COD MW" and the courier took 3 days to deliver it! Hmmm

Not too fussed about release day delivery - i'm working 27th and 28th. As long as it has arrived by the 29th (which i have off work) then i will be happy!

They did this with me, i just sent it back after it finally arrived and had bought it again on the release day.

I just don't want the faff of always having the CD in the PC.

Wish R* would release any sort of info about the DRM, Digital Keys and the specs.

They clearly like keeping us in suspense!
This will most likely be the same DRM as Max Payne 3 on PC:

If you buy the DVD version it has a 1 time online activation & uses R* own DRM as well as Rockstar Social Club. No need for DVD in the drive when you play though & it will not use Steam at all.

If you buy any digital version it may require Steam + Rockstar Social Club.

Rockstar Social Club is also most likely the online play server system I do not think it will use Steamworks at all for MP servers.

I would also not be surprised if at launch its only digitally sold on Rockstar Social Club to cut Steam's 30% fee out altogether!

Good to know, I never played Mp3 so that is good new hopefully about the DRM.

Just over 2 weeks!

It's already on Steam though.
He may have a point. It could be delayed on Steam so Rockstar could cut out their fee and make the majority of their profits from release day and a few months after sales. Then it becomes available on Steam in March or something. This would also go along with Steam sticking with the "Early 2015" release despite Rockstar sticking with the 27th January statement. Also would explain how they're being so quiet about it, to withhold any backlash and anger this would cause with Steam users.

Hopefully not, but I wouldn't put it past them. All of this can be resolved with simple communication from Rockstar. It's ludicrous.

"Hello xxxxx,

I've received your email with regards to not being able to place a pre-order for "Grand Theft Auto V" and your would like to know when the item will be available to purchase for PC Download.

I've checked the product details and at this time customers are not able to pre-order the PC Download. The game will be released on 27 January 2015 at 00:00 (UK local time - GMT/BST) for PC download. Please understand the Game Developer companies put these restrictions on the retailers like Amazon. It wasn't a decision Amazon made. I hope you understand our limitations."

So looks like there's no pre order for the Amazon PC download.

Thanks for the map feedback, I'll likely get a key then and get my step dad to print a map out as he is a graphic designer for TV show posters (Red Dwarf was his puppy for example) so he has access to some epic printers.

Is there a legal way to download at work and install at home via my 64GB memory stick. My girlfriend's 8Mb ain't gonna cut it.

So are we saying if you buy a boxed product you HAVE to install it from the disc? I can't be bothered to find a DVD drive and plug it in so I guess that limits me to download products only?

If you can access the steam desktop client from any PC on your work's network then you can log in and download it there.

Then just go to the steam library (normal program files (x86) - steam - steamapps - common) and copy the GTA V directory. Also grab the appmanifest from steamapps (it will be appmanifest_271590.acf).

Copy those files into the respective places on your home PC before starting steam. When steam starts it will scan the appmanifest files, see you have one for GTA V being there and will let you start the game (though it will still install direct X and C++ and the other stuff).

I still have a feeling it's going to be delayed. For a game of this magnitude, two weeks from release, to not have any PR work going on various sites is the worry. Prior to coming out on consoles, weeks and months before the release, screenshots and info was being released left right and centre, yet it's completely silent for PC. To me, I just get the impression it's already delayed, they're just waiting on the time to come out and give the bad news.
