I hope it is less than a 40GB download from steam as then I will be able to download it within a day.

Hopefully, but I have a feeling its actually going to be
a lot closer to 64GB as pretty much is usually the case when I've seen games that have advertised the specifications pre release. 55GB would be the minimum in my opinion.

I'm going with the physical copy anyway to save my 1MB connection for a fairer challenge.

If it's actually 65GB then it will be on 7 or 8 discs assuming they will be DVD DL discs :D

Unless you download through steam that is

EDIT: Might be a few discs less if the files are compressed

Doubt they will do it on DVDs if I were them I'd use a bluray disc. Bout time PC games scene started to move to that format and a big game like GTA could move a lot of us onto bluray drives.

Tho I'd still not get one personally mainly cos I have 100mb virgin net speeds. :)

hell yeah !

"GTAV for PC pushes Los Santos and Blaine County to even greater levels of detail, running at 1080p and 60fps with up to 4K resolution and support for up to triple monitor configurations, as well as NVidia 3D Vision for up to triple monitor setups. "

I can't see them doing blurays without them saying so beforehand, most people stuff have DVD drives. Hell, I still have a DVD drive myself. Not much point when I have 3 other devices in the room that can play them instead. I could see it having a forced download even for retail buyers though. I know Wolfenstein which I got a retail copy of, after installing it from the disk, it wanted me to download another 10gb odd.

It would also take so long to copy over. Especially if you had USB2 drives. It's then ensuring that they are virus free, etc. it would be a nightmare. I suppose there could be an option for the companies to put it on a write protected USB3 drive. I do feel, however, that this game suits BluRay - it would be a nice option to have it on 1 x DL BR and 1 x SL BR.

Steams going to be busy for a few days - they should make the pre-load 2 weeks before release just so that everyone can get it.

When I were a lad, I remember installing games with a stack of 1.44meg floppies.

We should ditch physical media all together. Is madness that in this day and age we're faced with the same historical problem. Blu-ray just perpetuates it.

I wish actually they would use USB drives for games these days, there small would use less packing and more robust than DVDs plus there faster I think.

Wonder what's stopping it tbh.

Cost. DVDs are cheap and almost every PC capable of playing the game has a DVD drive.

There's clearly still a market for physical PC games otherwise publishers wouldn't bother. Despite the popularity of Steam etc a lot of games are still sold on discs, it'd be silly to potentially exclude the market that prefers to buy that way.

A 64gb memory card is hardly as cheap as 7-8 dvd's is it! There is no way a developer would ship a £30 game on a 64gb flash drive.

Disappointed about the release date being pushed back, but I'm not hugely surprised by the decision.

The 65GB install is a definite physical copy for me, it would take the best part of a week to DL it. Does anyone know if I could copy the the steam files from a friends PC onto a USb flash drive, copy them onto my PC and buy my own Steam key to save me the DL?

Yep you could do that but Steam will recheck every single file before installing & may download some more data as the files are encrypted to the PC they are installed on knowing the way Rockstar DRM is!
