GTA4 - Console or PC ?

The PC version is almost always better in terms of graphics. But it hasn't been confirmed for the PC so I might get it on PS3 first.


Does neone know if/when it is coming out on the PC?

hm, found it way bette with mouse+keyboard, so much more carnage.

Always best on console? VC+SA?? hm. Did you ever see the ps2 versions?!? Oh wait you probably didnt, well maybes half of it, you could see your man, the car, but not the world around you, because it would take 20mins to catch up with you if you were driving over 10mph. Woot for 'popups'
 
Every time I have bought the console version in the past. I always enjoy playing them then for some reason after a few hours I give up and wait for the PC version to be released then continue where I left off (manner of speaking).

I think back then it was more of a case of not being able to wait to play it but once I had I could wait no problem :)

Will be different now though, think I'll get it on 360 primarily due to achievements and extra content additions. That and I thought Crackdown used the 360 pad very well for a similar type of game so I'm not concerned I won't be using a Dualshock for the first time in a GTA game.
 
pc version for the win. ive played the older games on consoles and couldnt get used to them, mainly because of the targeting system.
 
The GTA series is great, im sure more copies of GTA4 will sell than Halo 3 on the Xbox360, plus all the other platforms... Infact, i'm going to play GTA3 again on the pc, it's been a while and its one of THE best games i've played... :)

It does have MP.
I wouldn't be expecting better graphics, they weren't on the PC versions until someone released update packs, though they are a little sharper.
 
PC version, Rockstar have always taken extra care and effort to make a good PC version (I won't call it a port as I'm fairly sure that rockstar code all three versions side-by-side). And I've only ever noticed the need for a gamepad once as well (flying that damm harrier in san andreas).

Besides I've waited this long for the game, whats a few more months?

I think GTA IV will be the first GTA game I purchase for a console.*

I've got every version of GTA for the PC so far, including good old GTA 1 which I used with Glide support on my Voodoo card ;) I also had it on the PS1, but it was a bit... blocky.

From GTA3 onwards, I've found the PC versions superior. As has been previously mentioned, the extra time between console and PC release always seems to have been used to improve the graphics quite a bit. Also the keyboard and mouse control have always felt perfect to me, not like a console port at all.

I've played on mates PS2 versions, and always felt them to be sluggish, look shocking (compared to PC version) and of course... no mouse and keyboard.

Still, I'm going to have a punt on the console version this time.
I'm hoping the current consoles are powerful enough to do the game justice. From other titles I've seen recently, I do believe this to be the case, so am going to get this for my PS3. Just means I have to get used to using a controller for it, and having to use auto-aim I guess. Would be good if they'd allow mouse and keyboard support, as they did with UT3.

Anyway, if it's poor, for whatever reason, it can always be sold, and the PC version picked up for probably half the price when it comes out!

Damn, all this talk of it, I fancy reinstalling vice city now ;)

EDIT: * D'oh! SECOND. Will be the first 3d GTA I've bought for a console, but I did buy GTA1 for PS1 back in the day.
 
GTA – SA was the first and last console game I ever bought. I actually went out and paid for a PS2 with this game cos’ I just couldn’t wait for the PC version. After 2 hours I gave up and sold the lot to someone at work. It’s not that it was bad looking or played badly, the only reason was “Frackin’ Load Times”.

Coming from previous PC GTA games I had never experienced anything like it, totally ruined the game for me. Don’t know if modern consoles are still like that and quite frankly I just don’t care, I stick with my PC and wait 6 months thank you very kindly.

Lol, which versions of GTA have you been playing with this comment and the one about them needing patches?

Vice City and San Andreas were perfect ports to PC and only San Andreas had a patch released, and that was only to stop Hot Coffee and to add some features that the consoles didn't even have (like the ability to wash your car in the car wash! :D).

By far the best console --> PC ports ever, if you can call them "ports", seems to insult the fantastic job they do at converting the games.

Besides, GTA1 was a PC game first and was pretty terrible with Playstation controls, its only since GTA III that Sony paid big monies to make 'em exclusives for a couple of months.

Personally, i'll probably wait for the PC version and use a console controller like i do with SA. Dualshock 2 is the only way to play GTA. ^^

Don't get it from Steam, its the updated version (1.1) which stops you using any mods and thus playing the brilliant multiplayer mods. :o
