When I adjust the fan speed, the card makes a noise for a few seconds like the sound an old hard drive would make, it didn't do this when I bought it but recently it's been making this noise. I hear it more when I load up games as the fan speed increases but temps seem fine. Is it normal or should I check it out?

Check it out.

my 6950 Twin frozr III has the same problem. The rear fan makes a horrendous noise, but it isnt constant, its intermittant, weather the fan speeds up or not, it just seems random. It will be loud for 10 mins, then quiet for 10 mins..... putting slight pressure on the fan, stops the noise.

I checked the screws for the fans and they seem fine, so is there anything I can do to stop the noise? It sounds just like a mechanical hard drive noise that's the only way I can describe it.

Sounds like you have a worn fan bearing. It's tricky to fix though and probably just needs replacing.

Contact OC, they're replacing mine (same card, same problem... except it was impossible to mitigate the noise completely.) Horrendous vibrations... was making my entire case shake.
