I recently ordered GTR 2 and have received it this morning. However, when i try to install it, my dvd drive does not recognise that the disk is in the drive! Thinking that my dvd drive may be faulty, i tried installing another game, playing a cd and dvd, all of which worked perfectly fine!

Now thinking that the GTR 2 disk itself must be defective, i tried with my laptop to see if it would load and it did!

Really confused and frustrated right now. Does anyone have any ideas?

rip an isp with your laptop and mount it on the other machine with deamon tool or something.

you might need to update the firmware of the dvd drive.

Cheers Carling. I've installed the latest firmware but still no joy i'm afraid:(. Apologies however as the first thing you mention went straight over my head!

I'm like a hopping mad spoilt brat right now! I wanna play, i wanna play.

It would help if I spelt what I meant correctly!!

Rip and ISO of the GTR2 CD then copy the file to the other machine, mount it with Deamon tools and install it that way..

Its a virtual CD that you can run DVD/CD images from.

I have had the following suggestion put to me:

"If your laptop and game-pc are on the same lan, Share the DVD-Rom on the laptop and install thru your network".

They are on the same lan, can anyone tell me how to do this?

Connect both of the systems up to a router and set them up on the same work group.

This can be done by going to "My Network Places" can then clicking on "Set up a small office or home network"

You can make the DVD drive shared by right clicking on it and going to properties > sharing.

I dont think the ISO idea that carling had will work because GTR 2 has starforce protection on it, i may be wrong tho.

Has deffo got to be a defective disc. I took it round to my brother's PC and it didn't work on his either! He has a Liteon dvd drive and mine is a Sony.

Still, it's strange that it loads on my laptop. I'm wondering if the fact that the disc clips securely into place with the laptop is making the difference?

As for hooking up my laptop top with my PC, i've given up! Tried last night and it just confused the hell out of me. Is the mistake i made to assume that this can be done wirelessly? Both my PC and laptop have a wireless net connection.

I have sent an email to Play.com explaining that the game won't work and that i would like a replacement or a refund.

Starforce mate. Google it & GTR2 together with the word Problems after it.

Haha, at last i've sorted it! Ended up cloning the disc on my laptop, installed on my pc from the clone but it would still not execute as it wanted the original disc to do so. Then downloaded 1.1 and no cd patches and hey presto! Took a while but at least i'm able to play now.

I'm annoyed that after paying for a legit copy that it should be so difficult to get up and running. I can only put the issues i've had down to Securom (or whatever it is) not liking my pc/dvd rw drive for some reason!

Right then, i'm off play some and see what i've been missing!
