GTS450

Linux has taken a bit of a back seat recently with lower points in A3 WU's and no bigadv ability because of a bug.

Hmm, has nobody noticed the smallest child in the Fermi pack to date, the GT 430? 98 shader/streaming cores clocked at 1.4GHz, cheap as chips and only 49W at maximum. No SLI naturally, but it should not be a problem for closet and SSF folders, where heat and size matter. :)

If it gets its price slashed before/after Christmas, it could be an interesting option. Hmm, I am also quite hopeful about the future CPUs absorbing such entry level SIMD modules on to the main die. :)

I did notice the 430, its probably a good replacement also, but only 30 squid cheaper than the 450 I think unless I was on a REALLY tight budget I'd go for the 450 minimum.

Also with that tiny fan, overclocking it might get a bit noisy :)

Yes, tiny looks like a hectic spinner. I never understood why there was ever a need for an actively cooled solution in this end of the market, but OEMs seem to like their fans quite a bit. :D

I've just ordered 2 of these and a new power supply.
Curse you Biffa for buying new kit, and curse my jealousy driven weak will and inadequate bank balance...:(

Just installed them and I'm getting 13.5k on the first and 14.2k on the second.
This is out of the box before increasing the shaders.

I went for the MSI cards and they are so much quieter than the 8800's.
Temps are 50c tops at the moment.

Now for the tweaking!

Shader from 1700 to 1880 and I'm now at 14.9k and 15.3k with a TPF of 52 seconds.

I like these cards!

No -advmethods yet. Do I just add it to the client.cfg and restart the clients?

Is that the 'allow receipt of work assignments and return of results greater than 10mb' option?

No its where you put the command line arguments, think its the last tab, the Advanced tab, at the bottom where it says "Additional Client Parameters" put -advmetnods -verbosity 9

Ok, this is weird, my ppd on those cards has dropped to 6-7k.
If I restart the clients it ncreases again but then drops slowly.

Any idea why this might be happening?

...

It's ok, it was the CPU folding causing a massive slowdown. Stopped it and the GPU speeds are back up!
