GTX 1070 performance

I will be very tempted if the standard/cheap version of this card is close to £300 to upgrade my r9 290

The card is $379 RRP which is £258. Add in 20% VAT and you are looking at £310 minimum without taking into account customs charges for importing, price gouging. Expect to pay around £350 for a reference cooled version which I wouldn't touch at all. Custom cooled version will be even higher.

All in all, the new cards are around £100-£150 more than their predecessors were at launch.

It's going to over £400. Come on. We all know it is.

Much better value over the 1080 if sub £350. Most of the performance for half the price, hope it clocks well!

As above, I suspect it'll be priced higher or it'll destroy 1080 sales.

Ya know what? If a 1080ti/Vega doesn't do me well for 1440p high framerates and I skip out this gen, then I might go for a 1070 as a temporary upgrade to ensure I can run 1080p well. IF... the price is reasonable. Though a 2nd 970 to SLI could be cheaper...

Same here, should be a big jump and probably all I need at 1440p.

Definitely holding off for now though as I can't see it being 'cheap'

Hmm this is a quandary for me.

My 970 was £260 and if I can get £150 for it at least then if the 1070 costs £400 then I'll be effectively getting 970 in SLI.

The man maths therefore works but I only game at 1080p/60hz so I'm thinking of skipping, especially as it takes me a year to finish a game and I have three games on top of that that I will never "finish".

Currently partially through resident evil remaster, dead rising three, far cry 4, alien isolation and on top of that I play arma, asset to corsa and falcon BMS.

Next on the list is GTAV and Either 3 though and I do fancy running DSR in Assetto Corsa and Arma.

Pretty much what I expected, similar performance to a 980ti. If these don't have any idiot tax on them, I may be interested.

I suspect around £450 though :(

thinking the same, dont know if its just me but i actually think around 400 squid for the performance is not to bad

not bad, not great either. If we want to move forward with the speed we are getting for the pounds paid you really want to see the partner boards coming in at ~£350 though, and speeds to match or exceed a 980Ti.

I believe the "vast" majority of maxwell cards that have been produced were intended for the 1070. Although it'll be dearer than previous '70 cards it's designed to "sell" and give excellent profits. Time will tell as the 1080 at its current price will not see massive sales in the league like the 970 did. Fast sales profits are key here imho.

If these performance numbers bear up under scrutiny, looks like a 1070 could well be my next card. Should be adequate for 4k with the sort of (non-fps) games that I favour :)

Lovely TDP too, IIRC. Great to see a generation which combines performance increase and power decrease ^^
