GTX 1070 performance

reason on pricing..

ive been on a very famous website that is US and ships to UK

$699 after conversion and custom charge & delivery came to £ 613 + 7 OCUK delivery = £619

$449 came to £400 with import and customs etc then add delivery £409 ..

$379 came to £337 lets round it up to £340 then add ocuk delivery £349

and lets me honest anyway the FE will fly off the shelf leaving the other ''$379'' versions to try and get to $449 as close as possible

I was hoping for a 1080 at about £500 or less.

If the 1070 ends up at £450, Nvidia can stick it where the sun doesn't shine. Wasn't planning on waiting for AMD and settling for a less powerful card but NV would really be taking the **** if the 1070 is over £400.

I get that they can pretty much charge what they like while there's no competition but it speaks volumes about their mentality if they go ahead and ask everyone to lube up.

The big problem is a total lack of competition is giving Nvidia free reign to charge what the hell they want knowing full well that enough people will just lube up.

Can you show me where I can buy a 1080Ti in the next weeks, thanks.

My thoughts exactly.

As it stands, both the 1070 and 1080 are high end cards. In time, I'm sure that'll change and the prices will drop accordingly, but until then, the 1070 will be priced to suit its high end status :(

Welcome to Nvidia's new marketing plan :(

Better get used to it until AMD get their act together and provide some competition.

If you feel strongly enough about it (like I do) then vote with your wallet and don't buy until prices drop.

You can't, because Nvidia will want to stretch out the release time as much as possible, so that in time they can dangle the 1080Ti in front of Nvidia users including 1070/1080 like a piece of juicy meat to get them to itch upgrade again.

It's not even funny that they want to get people to upgrade from one card to another within the same gen, but that's business for ya.

Nah, no way.

1050 - Low range
1060 - Low Mid range
1070 - Mid range
1080 - High Mid range
1080Ti - High end
1080 Titan - Enthusiast

Your point??

Just because BMW release a new 1 Series, it doesn't make it a 7 series! It's still a 1 series, and always will be. It might be their newest car. Doesn't make it "high end". The 7 series will be along eventually, as their new high end car. For the meantime. Their new 1 series is still their new low end car. Nor is a diesel 5 series better than an M5 just because it's released first.

"I've just bought a new high end BMW. It's a 2lt diesel 5 series"

"not really a high end BMW is it mate? More mid range"
"it must be high end, it's their newest car!"
"no mate, the new M5 is coming in summer, that's a high end BMW, it's the best one in its class"
"But but mines the newest release, therefore it must be high end. The M5 isn't here yet"

Do you see how silly you are being now?

Your logic is crazy.
Analogy doesn't really work for several obvious reasons.

But either way, there is no right or wrong. It's valid to say a 1080 is high end and it's valid to say it's midrange. Just depends on the context. It gets very tedious to hear people argue over this incessantly.

Your Post is nonsense...

GFX cards are about pure speed.

The top end car...( if you want to use this analogy) is the one that wins the race....Its not about anything else.

Next

Yawn...

I'm still running a 680GTX, was waiting for a 1080 but it looks like that will just be too expensive to justify, 1070 here I come I guess

Over 400 quid I'd have to seriously think about if it's worth that money....

Nope. You are still wrong.
We can be almost certain that because of

950
960
970
980
980ti
9 series Titan

that Nvidia will release

1050
1060
1070
1080
1080Ti
10 Series Titan.

Agreed?

The 1070 may well be the second fastest card when it's released. But it's simply not "high end". Nvidia release their cards as families, and as such they can be compared to each other.

Why does this matter?

Because people are justifying the price of the 1070 / 1080 by saying they are high end cards. They are not. current fastest cards yes. high end cards no.

Why does this matter to me?

Because I don't want suckered into paying £600 + for a mid range card! I don't want the industry to "get away with it". For people to think that its ok to charge that. Because if they get away with it once, consider it the new norm! So it's much more than petty bickering its very important for us all whether we choose to accept this new pricing or not. the 980 was £450. It's direct replacement the 1080 (because that's exactly what it is) Is over £600!

Nvidia are testing us all here.

Simply saying, "yeah that's a fair price for a high end card" is not helping any of us.

My 7990 broke about 6 weeks ago and I need a replacement, I was thinking of getting the 1080. But no way am I paying £600+ for a graphics card, so I am thinking of getting a 1070.

So what do you think it will be, side graded or upgrade?

Almost certainly a decent upgrade.

Agreed. Nvidia's argument will be that the new cards are >50% faster than the old ones so expect a 50% price increase over the old ones, but that never been how it works in the past, new cards come out with more performance and a modest (if any) price increase.

Prices shot up with the 980Ti and they are doing it again with the 1070 AND 1080. 600+ quid for a mainstream graphics card? Ouch. And I do see the 980 as mainstream, having bought the top mainstream card since the 6800 years ago, skipping a few generations and compromising on a 470 instead of the 480, the 'enthusiast' silly money cards should be the 1080Ti and Titans
