Hi all

I have brought a very nice EVGA GTX 1080 and currently run it on a TN 24" Gsync 144hz monitor. I find the screen very washed out and am considering a new monitor.
Unfortunately stretching to nearly 700 pounds for a 27" IPS Gsync 144Hz+ mon itor may be a step too far (for the wife..I would happily pay ) so I am considering a Freesync. Annoyingly the same model of Acer Predator is around £250 pounds cheaper in the Freesync option.
I know I would not be able to use Freesync.. the question is, does anyone already run this setup and how much screen tearing or stuttering do you honestly get and is the extra £250 quid really worth it. Just cannot see the justification for such a price difference.

Thanks in advance

Nick

As far as I'm aware freesync is available through HDMI so it's not like you'll be without any screen tear reduction as long as you get one with hdmi 2.0 or higher.

I've been looking at this monitor

It's got adaptive sync so could fit your needs (even operates anywhere to 30hz to 144hz so good range) but if you need IPS as well as the 1440p and 144hz it's prob gonna have to go through the HDMI 2.0 so you'll want a monitor like this

Not got this sort of set up myself though so might be worth double checking it a bit further to make sure but thought I'd try and help. I agree though, I've never been one to throw an extra £200 or £300 down the drain for the sake of it either, you can get far more realistic deals and get something just as good for a much better price that will let you upgrade other areas if needed.

Firstly before giving up on your existing screen make sure you've checked there's not a better ICC profile or a review of the screen with recommended settings. TN's can be very washed out with their default setting but can be made to look a fair bit better with some tweaking.

As for moving to a non G-Sync screen I'd say before you go any further try turning off G-Sync on your monitor to remind yourself just what a huge difference it makes. Make sure you run something pretty intense on your existing screen to simulate the kind of tearing you'd get with any increased resolution on the 27" screen.
