gtx 280 reviews thread

"The maximum rated board power for the GTX 280 is 236 watts according to NVIDIA"

rofl...

Read the crysis benches in that review...

1920x1200 no AA/AF
high settings (one on medium)
min fpps: 17...
avg 31.1

sli 9800GTX beats it =\

"The next question I know you all are waiting for us what about the “VeryHigh” setting in Crysis, can the GTX 280 push that? The simple answer is no, it cannot, sadly. We tried playing Crysis at 1600x1200 NoAA/16X AF with everything on “VeryHigh” and it WAS NOT playable on the BFGTech GeForce GTX 280 OC"

hehehe.

Actually better than I thought it'd be.

...but that doesn't stop it being a huge huge huge rip-off and something to avoid.

The power draw in the HardOCP article was quite interesting - actually not that bad.

Still cant run crysis? This is a joke, the worst coded game ever or are nvidia just lazy?

It can... it's probably playable at 1920x1200 all settings buy one on high...

but if you want AA/AF you're gonna have to turn down the res.

Here's me waiting to upgrade............jesus, really not worth it.

Nvidia must think we're stupid.

I'll wait for Ati's offering, or just go out and get myself a 880gt for 99 quid.

Wow, thanks to this thread I'm not even going to bother thinking about the gtx 280. :D

What a disappointment and a waste of money that potentially could have been. :p:D

i agree, do Nvidia awnt to sell these cards if so the price will need to come down by a fair bit, is this Nvidia opening their can of whoop ass aginst ATi/AMD?

Hurrah people! Well done and vote with your pockets. Tell nvidia we won't stand for this kind of crap.

Quote from Final page of Anand's review

"There's no question that NVIDIA has built a very impressive chip with the GT200. As the largest microprocessor we've ever reviewed, NVIDIA has packed an unreal amount of computational horsepower into the GT200. What's even more impressive is that we can fully expect NVIDIA to double transistor count once again in about 18 months, and once more we'll be in this position of complete awe of what can be done. We're a little over a decade away from being able to render and display images that would be nearly indistinguishable from reality, and it's going to take massive GPUs like the GT200 to get us there."

Nvidia should be doubling the GT280 transistor count like RIGHT NOW because the performance they're offering us is pathetic and they merely want to drain all they can out of the market before they repeat the process again. Vote with your pockets poeple! Demand more power from your GPU!

I think the problem as reported on the net is that gpu is so large and complex and the yields so poor that it has to be this price for Nvidia to make a profit.
