GTX 295 Problems.... ??

I have installed driver 197.45, and have no NV profiles, no special fixes in Black Ops - GFX to the max, and have been playing it all morning, not a single glitch whatsoever... I hope I am not talking too soon, but if I ran Blops like this on the latest driver, the game would not last long at all, blanking out every 30 seconds....

Go figure....

Id put money on it being drivers. I had the 259 set, 100% stable, 260's gave me stable but occassionly the cards would only clock up to low power 3d clocks and not full 3d clocks, so I updated to the 265 (latest ones) a few days ago which fixed that issue, but now give me lots and lots of driver crashes, or at least were, they didnt yesterday but then again I wasnt doing the things that gave the crashes. Im simply going to try a clean install or just roll back.

If you cant find the 25x.xx drivers online I can send you a copy on thursday when im back at home.

I had the same problem with both my BFG GTX260 when they failed, switching driver sets I could work around the issues but it was always lurking in the background, eventually they failed completely. There are some niggles with some of the recent drivers but 258.96 and 266.58 appear to be stable, some earlier 260 versions may give you black (or white) screens and other issues with higher levels of AA.

I was one of the "lucky" ones managed to RMA both my cards just before BFG stopped operating here... one of the replacements failed inside 3 weeks IIRC, the other is still working in my 2nd PC but its not really used for 3D much.

Mine are fine except in this new driver set, although since it doesnt seem to have happened recently with them, I think it may have been a conflict with some USB driver thing that randomly meant my G19(new as my g15 died) would think it dc'd then rc'd, like ever few minutes, but wouldnt affect using it, thenafter about 5 hours of it doing that it BSOD'd with adriver compatability error, and hasnt doine it since I removed the g19 and plugged it back in lol.

Most of the time its the included Nvidia junk in the drivers.

Email them and ask if you can get just the graphics card driver without the rest of the 3D, PhysX crap included.

PhysX won't affect stability (except in games that need it) as absolutely no part of the PhysX API is active on the stack normally at desktop or in non-physx games.

You can untick most of it using the custom install option - don't think the 3D Vision stuff even installs unless the hardware is detected but not sure on that as I have the 3D Vision dongle plugged in.

I do reccomend not installing the HD Audio drivers atm tho, several people have had issues with them relating to black screens or crashes.

FizzX can do all sorts of strange things. Like suddenly decide you need one whole GPU dedicated.

Its best to just install the GPU driver on its own. If you need to use the other stuff installing it one part at a time will show whats causing the problem.

It does install the 3d stuff, I dont have any 3d hardware stuffs, just 2 monitors plugged in (both 60hz) and I have options to enable it, and I clicked it once and it took me to the configuration stage, which made me nearly buy stuff just do I could go through that :(

It does seem to sometimes randomly switch which device is used, but it doesn't switch to dedicating one card out of an SLI setup.

Goof Idea.. I will install the latest driver back on, and keep leave off 3D and "FizzX" :)

worth trying.....

The bloat ware in the Nvidia drivers needs to go, its way to much trouble.

How is the card doing DemonTraitor ?

Installed 266.58, with no 3D, or FizzX - still having problems. Black Ops goes blank every 10 seconds, for 2 seconds.

Going to take card out and put my 8800 GTS in, and send this one to my son to test on his PC.

Thanks to everyone for their help.

:(

UPDATE:

Had installed my 8800 GTS ready to send the GTX 295 to my son so he could test it...

After a few days of having the GTS installed, I turned on my PC one morning, and it just sat in limbo: fans spinning, HDD led on, no screen... Then turned itself off after about 30 secs...

Opened case and tried again and found the MOBO (780i SLI) had "FF" displayed, which was fine, but there was a little tiny led lit up red near the CPU fan power connector....

Done some googling and found that people were putting this down to CPU problems etc, so I felt pretty crappy...

Then found someone who had the same problem, tried another PSU, and all was ok - so I dug out my old Enermax 500W and plugged her in, and the PC booted right away.

Shutdown and tried the new Coolermaster 850W again... problem was back!

I fiddled with the wires to make sure they were connected ok, and then suddenly the PC booted ok...

I then shut her down, and put the new PSU in again, putting the problem down to the plugs not set firmly enough, but then problem returned...

I poked the wires of the PSU and voila, the PC worked again...

So, I have RMA'd the Coolermaster PSU to Overclockers, in the hope that they will actually discover a problem with it and replace it....

PS. My whole booted fine with the Enermax 500W PSU, even with the GTX 295 in, but I assume it is not wise to use such a low-rated PSU with such a power hungry GPU?

Thanks

Demon

a lot of 2xx series are having this problem. i got a BFG gtx285 OuCU and was getting system lockup, artifact during game play after little read on the net i download evga Precision downgrade the oc from 712mhz to 705mhz plus i also set the fan control @ 75% to 82% when playing since doing that i can play for hours without any incident casue by graphic card, if i do have an incident it gerenally cause by something else ie popup window or window need restarting etc.

MY card (MSI GeForce GTX 460 HAWK "Super-OC") has bee find for 6 months until few days ago, I get the "Kernel Mode Driver Stopped Responding And Has Successfully Recovered"

Also my screen goes fuzzy & black for few seconds then back to normal (sometimes the PC crashes).

Tired everything might have to send it back to OC :( any ideas
