hi sorry if this thread is in the wrong location but hey ho

i recently bought a palit gtx 460 and the temps were fine going to about 60c under load but then one of my orange fins broke of!!!! and me being an idiot took warrenty sticker of :( so i lowered the fan speed a bit so i didnt get a massive huming noise, but since then i have stuck 2 120mm fans at the end of it and i am getting 24c idle? and about 50c under load so i thought lets go for it and oc the hell out of it so i am running at about 900/1800/4100 and im still getting around 24c idle but now when i game my temps are inconsistant they go from about 60 when playing say call of duty or left 4 dead 2 and about 80c under load when playing crysis!! so i was just wondering if where i have positioned my fans is messing with temp sensor thingy or what  :D and is 900/1800/4100 to much of an oc and are my temps too high because i realy dont want to undo my oc as i am getting anround 5850 levels of perforamnce :D any adivce would be appreciated

Each game stresses out the GPU at different levels. They look normal to me. Run Furmark and see what temps you get ;)

Yep, the temp sounds pretty normal. For most games the GPU usage will be up and down high and low depending on the game scenes, but for Crysis, it is most like at around 80-100% usage at most of the time.

your 460 might well be close to 5850 levels but those temps are way higher than my 5850 at 5870 speeds ;)
But tbh your temps look normal for that card and your OC. Like Orcavader said above. Different games, different stress.
I wouldn't worry too much

Are those clock speeds on the default voltage?

Very nice indeed your case must be cooled well for a idle temperature of 24 mine is 37 (same card)

get msi afterburner and enable the onscreen display, you can set it to show gpu load , gpu memory usage , gpu temp and fps

most games wont use 100% usage while others like crysis will

yeah my case is pretty well cooled for how small it is

and no for the clocks my voltage is on 1087 :P

thanks to every one i have more knowledge of temps now :)

yeah but im at 80% the performance of a gtx 480 near enuf and sli scaling is soooooooooooooooooo much better than crossfire. 2 slightly oc'd gtx 460's can beat 2 5870's!!!!!! in pretty much everygame so i cant wait to get another just take a look at this http://www.hardocp.com/images/articles/1281032352aeZNjrRCSb_1_3.gif

Forgive me i'm new to GPU overclocking but how did you know what voltage to set? and how did you know it needed to be increased, benchmarks crashing?

Raise the core till it cant go any higher test running benches then raise the amount of volts in really small increments

i watched a youtube video on how to get a gtx 460 to about 80% of a 480 performance lol :P and to increase voltage download msi afterburner and go into settings and then unlock voltage control

but apart from that yeah you keep putting it up a lil bit at a time to see what it can take and look at your temps as well to make sure they arnt rocketing
