GTX 485

I reckon, that this was actually by design.

Hold back a little something, so they can generate some fuss, when they come to the market with an improved chip!

+1

They obviously disabled those SP's for a reason other than heat etc, they knew they had to release at some point, so they released a card that worked though not as fast as originally inteneded then plan to release the full part later on when they have had time to sort the heat issues out etc.

I have just defected from ATI to Nvidia after a string of poor 5770's hardware and driver issues. I decided to go all out and went with the 480GTX ... on getting the card I have had none of the issues I had before with the ATI cards .. all games and software run fast and 100% stable and I have finally got passed the ridiculous system hangs I used to get using the ATI card with Adobe software ...

So onto my next point .. I'm no overclocking expert but I managed to get my 480GTX core speed up from 700Mhz to 850Mhz running stable without massively effecting current temps .. sure the card runs warm but it did as stock anyway. I just programed a fan profile in Afterburner and for the most part it runs cool and quite unless I go on a moster gaming session at which point my sound is so loud I don't hear the fan anyway.

So If I can get 10%+ out of a stock 480GTX with on Nvidia's reference design surely there is still headroom for faster cards using Fermi ?

I'm sorry but I really can't see a 150 bump on the core not effecting temps on a 480, especially if it's not under water, and I take it you had to bump up the volts for that core. I notice you have it at 900 core in your sig....

hehe kinda answered in the other post .. did have it at 900 but temps where hitting mid 90's in the hot weather so I pulled it back to 850Mhz ... temps now max out at mid 80's during gaming .. I can hit high 80's in kombuster but that is an extreme test ... need to update my signiture :P

the volt tweak to 1.125v is marginal and gives me just that little bit more stability to get a stable overclock

I followed this guru3d guide ... good read

http://www.guru3d.com/article/overclocking-geforce-gtx-480-with-extra-gpu-voltage/

like I said I'll post 3Dmark & heaven benchmarks + temps and my stable overclock setting vs stock

Oh come on DM stop being so cynical! :D

All the nay-sayers who said fermi was 'impossible' to manufacture and 'broke', well I see a sheetload of the cards everywhere and they are actually selling, not as many as the 5xxx series I bet but selling nontheless!

It will be interesting to see how much of a diff those extra SP's make though. 10% maybe?

I haven't seen many 512 SP's Fermi's- have you?! Fermi has a die size that is 50% larger than the competition yet is barely faster!

I was reading a thread on this over at [H] and Kyle Bennett came out and said this was an obvious fake that was dreamt up to increase traffic through that gosip site that every news source has been linking to.
