GTX 680 problem

Hi Guys,

Got a problem with my Palit GTX 680 Jetstream. Basically I get video output in the bios but once it begins to boot into windows there is no signal. I've been building computers a while now but I'm stuck on this one.

I decided to remove some of the dust in my pc today, while doing it noticed that my GTX 680's fans were a little dusty. So I removed the plastic case/shroud and vacuumed off the dust with a little brush attachment, did the same between the fins of the heatsink too. All done very carefully. Worth mentioning I've fiited a few waterblocks to gpu's.

When I plugged it back in I had the above problem. After this I removed the gpu again to use the onboard hdmi on my motherboard. Everything loaded fine. I thought it might be a software problem as I was getting an output in the bios. So I removed the NVidia drivers making sure to use driver sweeper aswell. I then replaced my gpu, this time I had output in the bios and then into windows but in low resolution due to the lack of NVidia drivers. So I installed the drivers and restarted the system. However yet again I had video output in the bios but as soon as it booted into windows no signal.

Is my GTX 680 dead?

Asus Z77 Maximus V Formula
Palit GTX 680 Jetstream
Partriot 2133 dram
Corsair CX 650m psu
Hanspree 32" LCD TV as monitor

Do you see anything else after BIOS? If you set it to network boot as first boot do you see the (I assume) Intel Network splash screen trying to get a dhcp lease etc?

Have you got a bootable drive of any sort you can try?

Thank you for the reply but you've lost me with network boot, never even used it.
I'm just booting into a regular install of Window 7 64bit that's on a Samsung SSD. I see the bios screen then I see the windows loading screen with the four coloured dots merging. My pc beeps and the keyboards lights go off then on again but then there is no signal to my monitor. All this is how my pc always boots but instead of seeing the desktop I have no signal.

Unfortunately when using the HD 4000 graphics in my 3570k plugging the monitor into the motherboards hdmi output everything is fine.

Might be worth looking in device manager under Display adapters, see if there's any error code or warnings for the device when you boot using onboard video. Maybe a power connector became loose (either on the cards end or PSUs if modular) and it's not receiving enough juice for 1080p or w/e your native resolution is.

I had a look but no errors are logged. To get a hdmi feed from the onboard graphics I have to remove the GTX 680 otherwise I get nothing at all. So I cant properly check it while using the onboard graphics.

I just cant see how a perfectly working card could die from having its heatsink vacuumed! I've also checked all the cables everything is as it should be.

Try set your bios to use iGPU and it should allow you to boot with the graphics card in and have video out of onboard at the same time. Beyond that I'm not entirely sure to be honest

The 680 showing up in device manager and no issues still?

Off topic but I found a small windows bug when I was in device manager, open up any properties of any device in there and hover over the "close" button, you'll see it blinks like mad. I thought I had something dodgy running but the other PCs in the house did it too (win7), obscure bug

You are a superstar mate, somehow in the bios it had switched to use the onboard gpu.

I booted into windows using the onboard, took the hdmi out of that and into the 680 and my display came back working a treat again.

Weird, just make sure it can reboot fine and If so all is good I guess
