Hii guys,
Iam getting a new pc for this weekend . I think u would be aware of gtx 690 which is coming to market on may 3.

Iam going to hook up 3 asus vg278h monitors in 3d vision surround . gtx 690 performs similar to gtx 680 sli . gtx 690 has 2gb vram per gpu .

My concerns about gtx 690 are :

Iam afraid that 2gb vram in gtx 690 will bottleneck and cause stuttering in 5760X1080 RESOLUTION @ 3d. After getting a $1000 graphic card i dont want to sacrifice any settings .

I cant exact numbers of vram usage in surround 3d resolutions.

1. Will 2gb vram on gtx 690 will be enough for surround 3d resolutions ?

OR

2. Should i wait for 4gb gtx 680 to get released so that i can get 4gb gtx 680 sli ?

Additional Questions:

1. Does 3d consume any extra vram when compared to 2d ?
2. How much vram does games like battlefield 3, crysis 2 etc consume in surround resolutions ?

Please Note:
1. Please read everything above before commenting.
2. gtx 690 has 2gb per gpu thats why everyone calls it as 4gb but actually its just 2gb.
3. I also want my gpu to last atleast 2 years from now.

Also posting exact numbers will be really helpful for me.

Thanks in advance for your reply .

Checkout the HardOCP reviews on sli 680 and high res. I'm not sure if 3d increases vram usage?

Depends how long you plan on keeping the card as to whether 2GB will be enough for you. 2 years could be pushing it at 2GB for a 3 monitor setup.

1) Yes at present - it's possible it won't be enough in the next 2 years though for maximum settings

2) Better option for future proofing but far more expensive

Additional questions:

1) 95% sure that it doesn't use additional VRAM
2) If you disable the Windows 7 Aero etc while loading BF3 it consumes under 2GB in that resolution but see above: you're going to be close to the limit

yeah, BF3 is very close to the limit and you might even get some slight stutter and/or texture loading issues (I noticed this even at 1080p on a GTX 580 1.5GB on some of the bigger maps, a lot of people don't notice or don't care though)

personally, I am waiting for decent 4GB cards to come out before switching to 3 monitor, or at the very least planning on upgrading within the next 12 months

Same, Had to apply 2xAA from 4x and all is well(Ultra), It uses about 1.4GB vram with windows aero disabled.

@OP, For that resolution I would get the 4GB ver 680's and maybe SLI them.

If you are paying that much for a setup, I would go for the 4GB 680's in SLI. More VRAM will deffo help at the resoloution you will be playing at.
