hi everyone, could people please give you opinions on the above upgrade on my GPU, Currently running x3 GTX 470's in 3 way SLi and watercooled. Dunno if to keep with GTX or go with the XFX R9 280X DD.. The R9 280X DD is 3GB just on one card where the GTX 770 is only 2GB and would buy 2 to SLi

Are you going to be watercooling again?

If so I would go for the 280X if you can get a good price on it. If you're air cooling and not playing at a non-standard resolution then the two cards are pretty even in performance so you'll need to look at the other features which the two brands offer.

i would watercool again into my loop, the XFX R9 280X DD tho doesnt have a block by EK yet tho but the Zotac GTX 770 does by what they website says but its only visual but fitted

Any reason for it having to be those particular models?

GTX wise my current GTX 470's are Zotac and never had any sort of problem with them so would stick with that company Nvidia wise, the XFX R9 280X DD wise my brother in law has 2 of these in his rig and recommend them plus both cards are the sort of design look i go for

You might want to remove those competitor links mate. Not allowed here as this forum is part of the OcUK shop.

I'd personally spend a little more and buy a better brand of 280x - one which has a block available for it too.
There are also plenty of other reliable brands should you choose a 770.

To replace three 470s the minimum I would be looking at is a R9 290 or GTX 780 and even then the performance is not going to much different to the 470s.

Easy choice for me, 280X over 770.

Reasons. Cheaper, faster, free games, more vram, wider bit bus, voltage control, more overclockable, (silicone lottery depending), if you get a second card xfire scales better + you'll have more vram to use with 280X's.

But both options are still slower than three GTX 470s.

please 280x are voltage limited same as 770 , vram depends if he geos for 4 gig model , only it has wider bus, doubt its move overclocable ten 770 ,but

it is much cheaper and there practically same performance and i seen 280x for 169£ in b grade so still go for 280x , as 770 prices to high.
