GTX 960 or wait for Pascal 1060?

Hey, could anyone please advise me weather the GTX 960 is a bad investment at the moment with Pascal on the horizon?

My budget is £200 and I don't need ultra performance, infact noise is most important (which is why I went for 0DB version from Asus and the reason for wanting to upgrade)
Obviously a performance boost is welcome as I may upgrade to 4k monitor some time.

Are there any predictions anyone would be willing to make on prices of 960 and 1060? Is 1060 likely to reduce in price when the expensive models are released? I read that higher range will be june/july and budget models in fall.

If you can wait, then wait.

It's common sense really that older cards will be heavily discounted when the new series comes out. So pick up your 960 even cheaper. Or get a £200 pascal card. Upto you.

Again, its obvious if you want a performance boost for 4k - wait for pascal.

I would also say wait for polaris 11.
If you want to buy now, at 200 pounds AMD has much faster products than NV.

Agree wait and see whats announced. If they then turn around and say first release is November might make your choice harder but see if they at least state a date.

If you want complete silence then that may be your only option for some time, its a weak card for £100 let alone £200 though.

If your in no rush, I would wait and get a cheaper 960 or 1060 if you feel it's a good upgrade over a 960.

Why anyone would spend near £200 for a 960 level card is beyond me. The 960 gets beaten by the AMD 280X/7970 which is an old gen card that can be bought for £100 used. A used 290x can be had for less than £200 which is much better.

For £200 you should be looking more at a 290/390/970 level card which would be twice as fast as a 960. Chances are the next gen AMD/Nvidia cards will achieve R9 390 level performance for £200 or less.

Many thanks for replies, it was actually £200 for the 4GB, with a 250gb SSD I could sell for £50 and tomb raider which I could finish then sell too, so it was very attractive for less than £150 but think I'll wait for friday at least.

And the AMD surely isn't as quiet as the card I was looking at, I don't game much.

The AMD reference blower is noisy but the AIB coolers like Sapphire Tri-x are very quite and about the same as the Nvidia equivalents. I would not disregard the faster AMD card (290X) simply because it 'might' be a bit louder. I've used both a 970 and 290X and really wouldn't be concerned by noise levels at all as long as you avoid the blower type coolers.

Also remember that the AMD cards such as the 380X are based on newer architecture which are as quite as the Nvidia equivalents. Only the Hawaii core based 290 series is considered noisy due to the reference blower cooler.

The next gen cards will all be pretty good from both vendors due to the 14/16nm techonology so waiting is the best option.
