GTX 960 or wait for Pascal 1060?

Also remember that the AMD cards such as the 380X are based on newer architecture which are as quite as the Nvidia equivalents.

No there are not.

Earliest Tonga based card 285 released September 2014.

Earliest GM206 based card 960 released January 2015.

Only a few months in it but the NVidia GM2016 is definitely newer. :)

I meant the 380 is newer than the Hawaii architecture which runs hotter and hence noisier. In any case the even older Tahiti core 7970 is faster than the newer 960 so age is not necessarily an indicator of performance.

as far as rumors go, they only have 1 chip so far 312mm² for 1080, cut down to 1070, and more cut down to 1060Ti probably because of the so not good early yields, so my guess the perf/$ of the 1060Ti wont be any good , it is still the 312mm² chip but with deactivated cores, and lower rops/bus etc to cut cost on the pcb.
you might as well pick a 1070 or a polaris card, anyhow the smart move would be to wait, most of the actual GPUs will lose a lot of value when the new line up shows

The Polaris based range of cards is probably going to have sub £200 options unlike the GP104 based ones which are probably going to be £250+ or thereabouts IMHO.

I would pick up a second hand GTX970 - not only because I'm selling one right now ;) but also because it makes more sense than a new 960 :)

Also there will no doubt be some cracking deals on second hand 9 series cards across the board in the coming weeks

Which one?

I bought a 750ti Kalm X. I did toy with the idea of the op's 960 which wasn't much more but given the CPU is an amd 5350 I feel the 960 would have been overkill. Can't wait to see how it runs a few games! I don't need it to run games but like the idea of a totally silent pc.

I just grabbed a 4gb 960 which was on offer for £135. It's a great card and even with my lowly i3 6100t it does a decent job at 1080p. If you can find one cheap I would get one or wait but this is Nvidia they tend to just phase out older cards rather than big price reductions.

How does a 960 compare to a 7970? I sold my 7970 for £70 and it wasn't bad. They are a bit power hungry though.
