GTX 970 20% refund?

*looks at 970* You've served me well young steed. And now you want to give me money? Deal!

By the way what's the deal with those folk in the graphics card section? They're slightly.... fragile?

It's a very scary place to go. Very scary...

What?

In my view they are head and shoulders above most other retailers.

I've had a shambles of experiences with them. I haven't used them for years.

It seems though that a problem like this arises and retailers are shrugging it off with the old "go to the manufacturer". At least Amazon can't ignore a large number of people.

So maybe you're right. At least action is taken unlike every other retailer that sold these.

That is one step above even if it is a forced one.

I popped in there 2 weeks ago by mistake and ... just welp. At first I thought it was a self-referential, meta thing going on whereby everyone realises how dreadful they're being and intentionally amps it to 100%, tongues firmly in cheeks, but then the slow realisation that this was SERIOUS BIZNESS crept over me and, like mumsnet, I couldn't look away.

It's my new guilty pleasure :(

The worst part about the OCUK graphics card forum is there are cliques particularly on the AMD side that band together to try and censor (ie RTM) anyone who stands up to their constant pro-AMD marketing spiel. They get away with it due to the ridiculous over-moderation.

I bought my G1 Gaming 970 back in April last year from the rainforest (had a gift certificate to use up at the time). After checking out the reddit link I just went to my order page to raise a query and there is a big banner that says

"We are aware of media reports relating to the settlement of a recent U.S. lawsuit about incorrectly listed storage capacity for NVIDIA GTX 970 Graphics Cards.

We are investigating this, and if you purchased your Graphics Card directly from ****** , we will contact you via email in due course. If you purchased your Graphics Card from a third party seller on ****** Marketplace, please contact the seller of your order via Your Account.

Thank you for your understanding. "

I'm not holding my breath.

Please watch your mention of competitors, particularly if you are going to copy and paste

I assume these retailers can recoup the difference from Nvidia? I actually need to RMA my 970, I should get on that.

In the US they can as the judgement was against Nvidia.

UK retailers would still have to come to some agreement in order to do so. Otherwise they pay out of their own pocket.

The Consumer Rights Act means even if the manufacturer doesn't play ball, retailers still have to honour warranties or other liabilities.

As mentioned earlier in the thread, the class action has no bearing on any of this whatsoever. If the consumer has a genuine grievance, they already have protections in place to pursue that in the UK.

US market only ruling, no effect here

Actually could be useful if you did want to go to county court ('small claims court') with a retailer over something like this. You can point out that not only were you miss sold the card but also a US court has recently ruled on this over there.

I'm waiting for a 1080ti or whatever will replace it next year. So although it'd be nice to milk some money from marketing gaffes, it won't be worth the hassle.

Younger ages (mentally if not physically): GPU is your god, and it's not the nice fluffy sheep of the Bible -- it craves blood. Enter at your peril; the Viridian Curse is not welcome in those lands... Also never underestimate some graphics jock's capacity for a vociferous defence of his beloved purchase, which must be justified at all costs, regardless of how impractical or silly it really is.

Who will fight for Intel?! Who?!;)

people saying only usa get the refund uk amazon as posted so many times already are giving the refund.seeing as ocuk also profited from the sales of many 970s would it not be the right thing to do ? or contact nvidia ? seeing as they are one of the biggest sellers of graphics cards in Europe ?

do it right and it could be a good thing.;)

I had no idea about this. I purchased two 970s from OcUK at launch, haven't been in the graphics card section of the forums for MONTHS!
