GTX1080, GTA 5 and 1440p. What's your gpu usage please?

Yeah at most 50%, thats the setting i turn up last after ive maxed everything else out, i use just under 50% on that but only a couple of ticks of it is needed i think unless your looking into the distance a lot.

Pre-rendered Frames should never be set to auto it should always be at 1 on a single gpu and 2 on SLI. You should know this if you own a £600 GPU? I think OP may want to sit down and learn just what his driver settings are for because he might be using power settings in the wrong place and there are two locations for this on a PC.

Try adaptive sync or fast sync, I find vsync off works fine for Skyrim and cap fps in ENB, TW3 needs vsync and Fallout 4 works best with adaptive sync as regular sync makes it flicker like mad.

We all have to learn mate, just because I have good equipment doesn't mean I know everything. That's what forums are for. I've only been into pc gaming since September and have learnt a ridiculous amount of stuff since then. Sorry for not knowing it all.

For some reason I couldn't get any type of vsync to work other than the built in game.

I added gta5.exe to the list and tried on and adaptive in nvidia control panel but had no joy. Not sure why as I'm sure I was using this on my old gtx970.

So your 600 quid GPU isn't having its legs stretched at 60hz and people and recommending reducing settings?

Go for 4x AA and watch the usage fly

That will increase the GPU usage but also increase the dips he doesn't like. Which is why I recommended no Vsync and windowed mode to avoid the tearing that makes it look bad. With no Vsync, even 4x AA wouldn't dip below 60 I think, except possibly in grassy areas. Borderless windowed mode may also help with tearing if you dislike having borders.

I tried windowed mode last night and although it didn't tear it wasn't very smooth. Much better experience with vsync on.

Could be a pecularity of your monitor. On my 1080p IPS 70Hz it's just as smooth.

Fastsync has also been mentioned, and if it's working well (big IF) for GTA, then you'd get your full GPU usage but the monitor would be sent only the frames it can handle.
