just installed my new gtx460 and tonight its suddenly decided that the drivers are corrupt?. when i uninstall the drivers and try reinstall from the nvidia website it says there are no drivers because you have no hardware etc.. :| .. bit confused to say the least.

i tried that.. it shows up the 460 in device manager but then says this

Did you uninstall the drivers that you already had installed before you installed the new card?

You could try doing a manual search for new hardware thingy......

When you go in to the device manager, if you right click on the gpu, it should give you options such as:

update driver
unistall
scan for hardware changes

Make sure all Nvidia software is already unistalled
Reboot, if there was.
Scan for hardware changes (if that doesnt work)
choose to uninstall the gpu
reboot

It should detect it asa new card....

If not, you may need a reinstall of windows...

I think possibly the issue is you didnt unistall the Nvidia drivers before installing the new card.

im not entirely sure but it may be the cd that came with its fault..

ive just done a system restore and its gone back to how it was.. says working fine now.

when i put the disk in to install asus smart doctor i clicked utility and thats when it started playing up.

does the cd that comes to help it really bugger the card up O.o

Make sure you disable Windows from scanning & installing recommended drivers, so none will automatically be installed. You can re-enable this once complete at Step 5.

Step 1 - How to:
•Go to Start–>Search type in gpedit.msc
•Click the file to open the Local Group Policy Editor
•You want to go here: Computer Configuration->Administrative Templates->System->Device Installation. Click on the subfolder Device Installation on the left and on the right side you will see the possible restrictions.
•Right Click on Prevent Installation of Devices not described by other policy settings and edit this option, set it on ENABLED.
•Reboot Windows

Step 2
Uninstall the drivers via Device Manager then restart your system.

Step 3
Download and install Driver Sweeper to remove any leftover files, then restart.

Step 4
Download the latest drivers from the Nvidia website and install, then restart.

Step 5
Follow the instructions in step 1, but change setting back to DISABLED.

I never use the cd that comes with the card as there normally a newer one on the Internet

Also why remove old nvid drivers normally u put new card in and it installs drivers for new card

It happened with mine before the new series of Nvidia driver, ones with new logo when I was using a GTX 280. If I tried to install the drivers normally it never detected the device properly. What I had to do when I did a driver update was uninstall drivers, reboot go to safe mode, install new drivers in safe mode and reboot.

However when using 260.99 it installed fine without having to go to safe mode.

Not had the issues since or after installing the GTX 460.

often you end up with the Windows OS drivers not the Nvidia ones and lose the Nvidia Control Panel.

seems to work fine, only thing now is when i change the nvidia display settings to Force Vsync off.. it wont save. everytime i re-open it its back to the let 3d application decide -.-. which is a bugger for me cos i cant play cs with a fps cap of 60 it feels wrong!
