This has never been an issue for me as i've always had a decent psu so never come across this issue. Anyways, my little brothers 8800gtx decided to die the other day & as he is broke myself & older brother generously bought the poor boy a lovely new Palit GTX570 Sonic (which is with me at the mo, not been sent yet).
The problem is that my little brother has a 650w psu if he recalls correctly but only has 2x6pins. Now the reference GTX570 use 2x6pins but the Palit Sonic uses 1x6pin 1x8pin
As i said, im not too sure about this because i have never personally faced this issue as always had adequate psu's. Will he be ok to just use 2x6pins assuming he does not overclock considering the Sonic only has tiny stock overclock and reference designs are clocking far beyond it using 2x6pin?
Does a 6pin to 8 pin like http://www.******.com/product/224063 need to be used? Is this the right product?
Sorry to come across sounding stupid, to me 2x6pin i would like to think would work & if not the adapter work, but i really dont want him damaging the new card me & my older brother are generously giving him.
