GTX580 Default Vcore Variations

so am i right or wrong in thinking that if you have a max voltage available on my msi card that is the same max voltage available on say a gainward card, i should be able to hit near enough same max overclocks ?

Another Zotac on 1.025 VID here
Max stable oc so far: 950 core, 1900 shader, 2300 memory.
Does need all the 1.138 juice though. 1.113 artifacts

Not gone higher than 81c on a custom fan profile.

Actually contemplating flashing it to the Asus to access the higher voltages.

i really do just hit a wall after 915 core with max volts
screen does blank and freezes up

im gonna see how high it will go with stock volts first to see where i can get it too.

do you think i could get 805 on the core and 4200 on the memory without touching the volts?? (so its like the gainward golden sample)

wonter what the stock volts are on the gainward golden sample? anyone??

PNY with default 1.000 VID

So far 930core, 2200mem with 1.100v is stable with every game bench & test tool used, will push further when I have time.

i see no issues with that gaz
best thing to do is try and see, use heaven bench to test
but tbh mate, dont get sucked into the whole benching thing, once you start benching you will want more and more, and in the end you will of wasted hours and hours of your time instead of using the card for what its there for, playing games
if i added all the hours up when ive sat infront of vantage, 06, heaven and other bench tests i reckon i would be making a full 48hrs+
time wasted looking for more fps

so yeah clock it mate lol

So looking at the results so far, it would appear that the Vcore is not standard even within the same brand which implies that branded cards are all reference stock with different stickers and maybe altered BIOS:confused:

As these cards are all supposedly reference, it raises the following question:
Who or what determines the default Vcore:confused:

Who or what determines the default Vcore:confused:
NVidia recommends the vcore based upon batch. Vcore (min, max, 2d, default etc) can all be set within BIOS so vendors do not need to stick by NVidia recommendations, but most do.

As with CPU's, a lower default voltage does not guarantee better overclocks, but IMHO in slightly increases the chances. Many other factors influence overclocks, but the GPU itself is the key component.

KFA2
1.013v default GPU Vcore.
tested stable at:
840MHz default voltage
900MHz 1.1v

memory stable at 210MHz, not tried higher.

Zotac here also with 1.025 VID.

But I now have the max voltage unlocked on this BIOS, which is now 1.212 :)

I can share the Zotac BIOS if you want it? LMK. ;)

Waiting on my waterblock arriving before going anywhere near the new max.

So a lower core voltage implies what, better silicon, which if true would imply maybe a better OC:confused:

Am I correct in assuming that the initial release of 580's are all pre-manufactured by Nvidia & shipped to partners for branding or do the partners actually manufacture at board level:confused:

My vcores seem to be pretty low

EVGA GTX 580 1 - 1.0v
EVGA GTX 580 2 - 1.012v

I can run up to 830 stable at that, and up to 900 by just bumping both of them to 1.013.

Not sure what my default voltage is really?

MSI Afterburner- when card was first installed was

Core Voltage: 962 at default?

Im now running at 1075

Edit: Just reset afterburner back to default settings and the voltage is at 962,what is this so low compared to other 580s?
