GTX670 upgrade

Been there done that lol. One time I had to use a hacksaw.

Is it loud at 55%? I've considered getting a zotac card in the past but didn't want to take a chance
5 year warranty is pretty awesome.

Yep I started using the hacksaw but went why dont i just remove the dust guard!!!! Lol I will get a new case at some point!

Not really, the case already has 4 fans so it doesnt really add the the noise plus when gaming I use a headset so cant hear sh!t anyway :) For the price I got it for compared to other 780's cant go wrong.

Ive seen an EVGA classified 780 2nd hand for £290

Some interesting points here

If you just use raw FPS numbers to define "performance" you will not get the whole picture.

More and more reviews are including data points that relate to how SMOOTH a given setup plays.

It is possible for an SLI setup to put out high FPS numbers and lack smooth game play. This shows up in frame time variance numbers and other numbers other than simply FPS.

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-1890964/buy-2nd-gtx-670-sli-780-290x.html

How is are these data points measured? Not sure really what it means about higher FPS with SLI, but not as smooth as with a single card

I is an interesting point. I did sli back in the day, had 8800GT Sli and it was great but I always tend to go back to 1 gpu because of that smooth feeling as well as not melting my case and leeching power off next door to fund the bills!!

I know going from a 670 to a 780 isnt a huge upgrade but for what I paid and the increase in performance I think it was worth it. Who knows, when Maxwell decides to show up i could sell this and get one of those.

I do see where those points are coming from Guest.

I have never had an SLI / Crossfire setup and can only imagine it brings complications.

Whats this 'smooth feeling' you speak of?

To be honest, I dont game much at all but there is always a point I think "If I can upgrade whilst I can still get ok money for old hardware and new hardware doesnt cost much more, then I may aswell do it" I did the same going from Q6600 rig > i5 rig. It ended up costing me about a tenner in the end :)

Stop copying me!!! I did the same with my q6600, got good money and went to I5. The smooth feeling is the same as when your mrs just shaved her legs :p

The best way to describe it is there isnt huge Fluctuations in the fps. For instance when I had sli, the max fps was higher but the min was also lower so when it dropped whilst gaming you felt it a lot more. Since i've got this 780 it just feels a good constant speed and feels much nicer to play.

Sli/crossfire can work great but I just prefer a good single card!

ha ha. Maybe you were copying me?

It would be interesting to see some min / max / average stats of a single 670 / 670 SLI / 780 to see how they compare

edit - would also be good to see how these weight up again the ATI equivanent (290X?) I had an ATI card a while back which was a good card but seemed to have a few driver issues - 5770 i think i had
