It's not Japanese, and neither is it from the country in which that particular one is registered.
Although I think the majority certainly went across the Atlantic.

Not at all. I couldn't guess it at all. Took me half an hour googling 'classic XXX' through all the non jap and american car manufacturers I could think of. Saab was well down the list.

Wasn't so much a guess, as the result of a brute force approach to searching the net for a car based on another tail light cluster which finally paid out

First guess was the Honda NSX, then various lotuses, followed by search for generic american muscle after noticing the all red lens, followed by ultimate generic blind search of all cars
