Guess the quote

The 18k miles is based on a 35mile each way commute, 32 miles of which are motorway. I think accountants are classed quite highly as we're generally dull & unadventurous!

although it sounds picky, the 32 motorway miles wont matter, 70 miles for the majority of your week is still quite a bit, most people i speak to will do between 8-10k for a variety of jobs, but same as most my responices to insurance questions, insurance isnt logical its statistical so no-one will have a price reduction at every years renewal and there will always be someone driving a more exotic car and paying less than you but thats insurance, plus the insurance companies need to make a profit on top of covering their costs, which in insurance is the likely-hood of something happening unlike other industries where the costs dont rely on ifs and buts

Not far off.

£1180

Sweet Jesus and the baby children. I'm a 30 year old accountant

So you should be brainy enough to work out for yourself this insurance company is merely saying 'We dont want your business, but if you insist, we'll cover you for a large amount of money' instead of posting a thread on the internet about it.

I could, right now, get a quote for over £5k from several insurers. It's just those insurers way of declining my business.

It must be that they fill a quota for a certain type of risk category, and bump the prices up in order that you go somewhere else amongst other factors which are not immediately obvious to me after drinking a pint and a half of scrumpy.

I don't think it's so much that, rather they ask for that & sure enough some mug is going to pay it. It doesn't really make sense that they wouldn't want to insure me, I'm not exactly a 'high risk' driver.

When the renewal was due last year on our Focus the AA asked for something like a £200 increase. I called them up & they dropped it to pretty much the same price as before.

I've heard that sort of thing called a "**** off quote" for those reasons.

Exactly, I've had quotes in excess of 10k, that doesn't mean it's an accurate quote, they just don't want me on their books but will take me on for a silly amount.

Tell them you accept the offer and you are going to plow your car into a Ferreri dealership. :p
