Can someone do a rough guess on how much the following 2 patch's of rust might cost to fix?
This one is pretty much all the way through on this and will need either new metal putting in or fibre glass.

This one is hard to tell but looks/feels like its all the way through as well. I,ve pulled away part of the rubber surrounding and it goes all the way back :(

Thanks!

That looks a lot like typical 90's Honda-rot:(

If it is it's hard to get rid of, I had my last one patched up but it was back within a couple of years :(

Couple of hundred quid to buy some time though, whatever you do, do not leave it!

PS Remove those rubber strips, they are the root cause.

Just to give you an idea, I paid £40 to get two new plates welded in for my sills.

Prep it yourself, and treat it afterwards... chances are wherever you take it will only weld it and won't actually do a decent job of protecting it.

I've just fixed an area of rust on my car in a similar location to that. It didn't look too bad at first, but after grinding away at it, I soon had a hole.

Got rid of all the rust, got my mate to weld in a small plate and then I undersealed from the inside. Used bodyfiller to bring the depth of the hole back upto body level and then sanded, primed and painted it myself. Not a bad job and not too difficult. To get a plate welded in, shouldn't cost too much. It's the work to blend it in that'll cost a bit.

Thanks,
yep its a 4th gen Honda prelude with the statuary rusty arches :)

I'm worried though if i started attacking it with a grinder i/it would come off a lot worse, I'm not afraid of getting my hands dirty on the mechanicle side of things etc, but im about as good as a 5yr old when it comes to paints.

Here's mine...

My first words after taking a grinder to my car were "oops". But then, I decided to carry on grinding ;) When I bought the car, there were a few tiny rust spots on the paintwork. Scary how quickly it spreads!!

After welding in a new plate and covering with filler, I left it to harden for a few weeks

After smoothing over and a quick spray to protect it until a later date, it now looks like this.

Much better I'm sure you'll agree. Good news is, the colour match is spot on! Good ol' Halfords.

Halfords colour matched paints are actually damn good Andy, when i sold the mondeo i had my neighbour who used to run a body shop spray the rear spoiler with paint id bought from halfords that they mixed in store for me and he said it was by far and away the best rattle can he'd ever used, damn good mix and it went on VERY evenly too!

The paint match for my 220 was very good too, but for both of my 214s it was rubbish. Both the red and blue paints were far too light for the car, despite matching to both the colour code and name.

Halfords kingfisher blue is absolutely nothing like the real colour. Made a right mess of my brothers 214 :(

I cant imagine white being a hard colour to match :)

If the weather holds out for a few days i may attach it with a file, see how far back the actual rust goes, may leave a big gap in the arch but it will be rust free!! :o

Guesstimate?
You've gotta be ****ing me?

Is your name stephen "with a ph not a v, ha ha ha" and do you use a palm pilot a lot, and talk a bit like lloyd grosman?

Damn I hate that word :D
Couple of hundred at the most i'd say.
