Now Try without Blocking any IPs, Virgin Media seems to have now fixed this buffering problem.

Hello I know a lot of us on here, who with VM been having buffer issue with HD YouTube videos. Well some guy over on the VM forums seems to have found a nice easy fix :)
I have just followed the guide and once I finished noticed Youtube was super fast like old day lol

Blocking 62.252.0.0/16 Range seems to be the better option.
What you need to do is Block this IP address 62.252.44.12 and that's it :D

Block an IP or IP Range in Windows Firewall
https://support.powerdnn.com/KB/a482/block-an-ip-or-ip-range-using-windows-firewall.aspx

Give it a try guys.

And I thought I was coming in here to find an actual solution to the buffer issue...

sigh... a quick type into the URL bar tells me the IP address is for google, dont bother....

Merry Christmas :o

Wow you really didn't even try did you? So like 8 of us all lie about this?

Tried it - sort of worked, sort of didn't. A video I was watching is now loading at 720p fine, however any other video now has a 30 second timeout before it even tries to load and then only 50% of them will even buffer, the rest won't even load

Have a link see if I can load it?

It's the Tekkit Videos from Yogscast, they're fine (For everybody but me on Virgin!!)

- GP

Clicked couple of them, There buffering fine here. Will see how this go's on peak time tomorrow.
So far YouTube is using a lot more of my speed, When I right click show video info I can see its using much more than before.

My fix for this issue was to move to another ISP. Worked a charm.

This only issue with VM I would take my 120MB download over anything BT/SKY offer. I can download massive games from Steam/Origin @15 Megabyte/sec
This hasn't always been a issue and from what I understand VM are working on it.
But for time being blocking this IP address works.

Your blocking all IPs in this range: 62.252.0.0 - 62.252.255.255, thats 65534 IP addresses!!

Seems like a rather hammer fisted approach.

As a test I added it but removed it again because you have no idea what your blocking in that range, speeds to videos were higher tho.

But everything else seems to work? so why does it matter until a site won't load say Google then why care? That's how I see it.

You've tested/know all 65536 IPs have you?

It is an excessive approach to fixing a problem which probably only covers 20-30 virgin media IPs.

I've personally turned it off until I can be bothered to test further.

No I haven't did I say that? What I said is I not run into a issue and till I do then I will re-think if I need to block the IP address.
Not hard to understand?

Virgin Media have released an update.

The latest update on this is that we've been working with Google to help them best utilise the Content Delivery Network we brought online two weeks ago and their system's algorithms should finish learning how to do that towards the end of this week. Once that's done any remaining YouTube streaming traffic using our transit links will fully move across to our dedicated peering links with Google, improving performance for YouTube.

We're also close to completing the addition of more peering capacity, which should improve performance further. Click here for some background on peering and transit links.

Work continues on troubleshooting any remaining issues with other streaming video sites but improvement is expected to be seen, particularly over this weekend.

I'll post another update later this week.

Thanks

I don't really see the problem. Block the range to get YouTube working - if you have a problem, take it out. Hardly a massive chore

This... Since I have do this IP block I have not had one issue with any program/game or site loading.
Yes true it might block a lot more than we need, but whats the care till something do work for you? all you have to do is delete the firewall entry.

But anyway I posted up Virgin media have yesterday released an update saying things should be ok by end of the week/next week.
:D

Has anybody else not blocking any ip's noticed a change in youtube performance tonight? Mine seems to be far more usable tonight with no having to wait for it to buffer before I can watch.

Could be down to this... I not test that much today but I have unblocked the IP's for now.

Something has definitely changed. I can now instantly start watching 1080p YouTube videos whilst it quickly buffers the rest. :D

I've been using these 1080p movie trailers as my test videos. I'm also able to jump ahead to unbuffered sections if i'm quick enough and it instantly continues playback.

Extremely impressed.

*Edit* Just to be clear, I haven't blocked any IPs etc.

Also noticing buffer improvements tonight, lets hope it stays like this.

If you guys still having issue on peak times try this. confirmed to be working by people on virgin forum.

Goto Start and enter WF.msc in to the search or run bar and select enter;

1. Select Outbound Rules
2. Select New Rule
