Guide to helping you choose your components

Hey sry for late reply, yeah that sounds like a good plan, though for a gfx card that powerful you would prob need a new PSU too, somethign to bear in mind, the other alternative is to get a dual core phenom now and spend a bit more on the PSU now so you wouldnt need to upgrade it

If you read it in context with the line 2 above which explains
At present the performance order of these cards (ATI have 4 numbers, NVidia 3) are as follows
then does that make it make sense? Theres an even spread of 4 numbered and 3 numbered models, I'll look at it again more closely when I add the new i3/i5 material, which will be shortly

OK Ive done a quick update for you, I will update the whole thing tomorrow but as youre keen Ive done the £400 one now, theres only 2 CPUs of that type left, which I normally wouldnt spec something with such low stock but if youre quick you should be ok, or theyll have more in shortly, theres not really any other option without pushing the price further up, included AM3 mobo and DDR3 RAM for you for future compatibility, and swapped the gfx card for a 5750, it doesnt have quite as much grunt as the 4870 but it is newer generation with lower power requirements and DX11 support

hey sry for late reply, look at this mobo, pretty much the same just gigabyte, the smae applies to toher components, if its out of stock just select another brand of same spec, so this mobo is an AM3 770 chipset, just like the other, I do always try and make sure theres 10+ stock for the specs I do but obviously sometimes they do sell out. Re quad core you can look at the athlon x4 for reasonable budget or if you can stretch then look at the phenom quad core, depends on your budget and required uses, have a look at anandtech or techreport for comparisons on how they fare against each other in each use/scenario

AMD boards are designed for 1.9v RAM however they can take 1.65, Intels new boards are designed for 1.65 and CANNOT take the 1.9 as this will fry them, it is ok to go lower on AMD but not higher on Intel

Yeah the bench is linked (budget build section) but I will incorporate it more clearly in an easier to find place
And the best bang/buck is also included, the mid level builds, Ill have a re-read and maybe make it clearer
Thanks for feedback

Hey Sammy

Your links not actually working, so cant see which system you're referring to in order to compare/tailor a spec towards, but Ive done a quick i7 spec, assuming youre going to be doing a bit of gaming? Comes in a smidge over at £830 (It is possible to get under £800 - quite easily - but as you state overclocking I dont want to compromise too much on case/cooler etc), difficult to knock £200 off any spec and stay "just as good"
Whats the name of the system you linked? Is it the Black Ops one? And what other points are important to you? Eg any gaming? or what?

Cheers guys

TBH youre being exceptionally optimistic, thats a cracking price for that system, and theres no way youre going to get a watercooled i7 system for 7/800, its just not possible I'm afraid, you need to have a think about what your priorities are, i.e. if water cooling is something you'd really like to try then you wont be able to go i7 route, or if you really want i7 you'll have to ditch the idea of water cooling, or if your budgets flexible decide on what the max budget you can stretch to is and then see what can be squeezed into that budget. It might be worth starting your own thread so you can see other peoples opinions too, also if you activate your trust (check FAQ, it allows people to message you/you message them) good luck anyways

ah yes, didnt realise that Id put the FX in instead of the GX, the GX will be just as good really, it only runs xfire at x8/x8 as opposed to x16/16 which means if you ever go dual gfx cards itll drop down to this speed however its minimal performance difference (3-5% on high end cards)

Theres no reason why they wouldn't however you need to be sure they'll physically fit, often some cards (gfx cards in particular) block the slot next to them, so check before ordering, open up pc and look down on mobo, as long as you can see the slots you need to use you should be ok

It was an intentional error, I was seeing how long it would take anyone to notice, well done, you won the prize, ;)
I shall ammend as soon as upload service stops playing up

yep should be a nice boost, although just get windows and HDD separately, and stick with the Samsung F3, the 6Gb/s transfer rate doesnt really help mechanical drives anyway

I've updated the main builds, as you can see not a lot has changed, hence the lack of updates, but its done now
Though I still need to rewrite section 2&3 really, but need time for that
