Guide to installing Scythe Ninja?

Hey all,

About to begin a new build which involves a scythe ninja. Was wondering if anyone new of a step by step guide to installing this HSU? Admittedly I haven't opened the packaging, so if the instructions are very clear, then don't worry. It's just I've never installed an HSU this big or one where I have to attach the fan!

Depends what CPU you have. I think it's pretty much straight forward for Athlon 754/939 but for Pentium 478/775 there's a bracket you got to mount on the underside of the MB.
Correct me if I'm wrong anyone.
 
you mount 2 brackets to a backplate, 1 for each 2 holes. The manual is very messy, but spend a few minutes reading it and getting the things in the correct order and its very simple.

AMD is a piece of cake. Intel is a pain in the butt - it's very fiddly.

As above, as long as you read the instructions properly you should be Ok (and don't forget to put in the little nylon washers and have to take it off and do it all again :o ).

Just be warned with that backplate and its sticky pad/ I took mine off 2-3 times and well the sticky pad wasnt so sticky and made it made contact with the mobo so shorted it out.

Modded the old Athlon64 backplate which was a lot more better cos its plastic so doesnt short anything and my pcs been ok ever since.
 
Easy?! Just spent half an hour with the thing - cut my hands to pieces on those fins! Also bent the top few fins downward slightly from all the force I exerted on it to get it to attach to the mobo. That shouldn't make much different right? I've straightened them out best I can.
 
Yeah the fins are quite thin, so bend fairly easily. That happened to me too, I just bent them back and haven't noticed any problems.

I find it nigh on impossible to install with the motherboard in the case, due to the size of the thing. I have to virtually take the whole system apart to remove it, but luckily that's not done very often.
 
I found the worst part with the Ninja apart from the metalic backplate shorting out my pc.... was actually the stupid clips holding the 120mm fan, ended up using bit of tap on each side cos I found them flimsy and they would fall off.

The Scythe Mine has fixed this and made a much neater/better design since the fan is already on the inside.

Still if I had a choice id go with that Tuniq Tower heatsink the clips/design look better and well it performs better.
 
I installed one yesterday on a DS3... very simple.

I found the clips less flimsy than the XP120 I had before, to avoid cutting fingers on the fins just wear gardening gloves while you install it, and get your wife or five year old son to press the clips into place. Daft, perhaps, but it works.

It's a bit like a PC modding version of Twister.

Only thing I don't like is the fan mounting, that IS flimsy.

Basically they show you *what* you need to do but don't tell you the best way to actually *do* it.

Most people suggest the second clip should be the one in the opposite corner to the first, not along one of the same sides. Also be careful as you can easily cut your hands to pieces on the fins.
 
and remember that the screws to hold the backplate enter from underneath the board, not the top...I spent some time trying to fit it then realised this lol

Oh and I also bent my fins a little but bent them back and fine.

As you look at the mobo face down with the back of the case at the left, I mounted my fan on the right hand side above the ram slots, some people have it 'on the bottom'
