Guild Wars 2 or WOW?

Refreshing to see people not bashing on wow for a change. However if you have them both anyway then what is the harm in playing them both and seeing which one you enjoy more for yourself? The only difficulty you will have is that WOW only truly shines at level cap when you can start raiding, pvp, find a guild etc.

WoW vote for me also if it came down to it.

Just started playing these side by side, I guess I could play them side by side but I was wondering what people's take on the best out of these two was.

I have wow up to lich king and I was going to buy time cards to continue playing, but I'm also playing GW 2.

Would you guys just play both of them or would you devote yourselves to one or the other, and if so which?

Thanks, I'm a bit confused at the moment and can't decide between devoting myself to wow or gw 2 or playing both (seeing as gw 2 is free, it doesn't really matter how much time I put in).

Thanks!

Rift, i played at launch didnt think a lot of it, but its improved so much and is the only mmo i currently play :)

Rift does look awesome, only thing stopping me from having a gander is the pathetic engine it was built on. :/

That and ESO. :p

As for OP, if your lv80 then push on, you're half way to the proper end game content. The only problem is you'll be paying more than Guild Wars 2 costs for the rest of the expansions and then a subscription on top from then on.

Blizzard...

I'm a GW2 fan but they can be played side by side.

WoW is still a good game but for me it had its day.

WoW.

GW2 was massively overhyped and ultimately disappointing, despite being entertaining for a short while. Everyone I know who started playing it from WoW bailed on it inside of a month. The quality just isn't there.

WoW isn't as good as it used to be, but it's still the undisputed MMO king at the moment. The graphics are great, despite being slightly cartoony, and the gameplay is comfortably the best out there. The environments and storylines are better/bigger, it has more features, as well as the playerbase being bigger and generally better.

if you're going to play an MMO might as well play the best one.

I would actually disagree with that sentence. I'd say..."if you're going to play an MMO might as well play the one you like the most" -- I would never play a game purely because its deemed to be "the best one" , I play the games I like the most (just as I watch the tv shows and movies and drive the car etc, that I like the most...not what the majority says is "the best")

My reply to the OP...what I would do is play GW2 for 1 month and play WoW for 1 month. At the end of each of those months I would look back, see which one I enjoyed the most and continue playing that one.

The single biggest problem with GW2 for me is the level scaling. Initially I thought it was a cool idea and could see how grouping up with friends would be easier and more accessible. But eventually I began to realise that it goes against one of the biggest draws of MMORPGs for me personally. That feeling of outleveling content and becoming more powerful. Its just no where near as satisfying imo.

I would say GW2 is worth playing through to level cap once, just to experience the world and the questing. But WoW is the better game imo. Its well established and vast, with so much to do and its the game I always go back to. The gameplay is also still the sharpest imo. Very responsive controls.

If wow lost the cartoony look and stopped making EVERY SINGLE QUEST EVER a pop culture reference, I'd probably still be playing it.

I pre-ordered GW2 and was so hyped for it after playing WoW for years.....as soon as it came out I burned my way to 80 only to find I got bored, as I felt like I had nothing to do.

My problem was that I was playing it how I played WoW and thats not how your meant to play.....I went back to WoW and continued on the same old cycle of Raiding for 4 hours every night....I realised that I didnt want to get back into this cycle as it takes up too much of my eveinings and wasnt even that fun and so I went back and tried GW2.

When I came back I had a whole different outlook on it.....im taking my time and playing it how it should be and it really is an amazing game.

They are adding new content with the new fractals dungeons and they have plans to make the dungeons more fun and generally polishing it.

For you as a newbie starting on both I would reccommend GW2.....not because WoW isnt good....its great, but its reached its peak and can only offer RAID after RAID after RAID or PvP if that floats your boat.

GW2 I think will evolve into something special over the next few years and would be worth more of your time (in my opinion).

It also allows you to have more of a social life and pick it up whenever you want to.

But each to their own.....some might not like the more story oriented sytle of GW2.

Oh and GW2 has to be one of the most beautiful games I've ever played.

WOW is a trap, it leaves you feeling like you have to play it as much as possible to get your monthly subs worth. GW2 ***** all over it in my opinion. Comparing it to wow is your first downfall as they aren't meant to be the same type of MMO at all.

That's the part of MMOs which never made sense to me, I'm now x levels higher so I can kill a boss move in 2 hours.. woohoo! Erm no.

Level scaling works brilliantly, if you want to feel overpowered in certain zones etc then yes stick to another game as GW2 will frustrate you by making you play to the content around you. But surely we want a good fight?

The scaling isn't massively accurate, at level 80 going into some of the lower zones your additional skills and gear means it's fairly easy to take on most mobs including boss ones, but there's always some element of challenge.
