Guild Wars 2 or WoW?

Really? I never understood why people brag about the loot they find, it's all random number generator, if a epic piece of gear drops for you, then you're lucky, nothing else.
I would say it's more proof that you survived a particularly hard raid/dungeon and needed team work to overcome it.

To the OP question, GW2 is free so try it first. I did get bored of it but not before getting a character up to level 80 (top level) and enjoying the journey.
I did the same in WoW. Got several characters to top level, did some serious raiding but got bored of that too.

In fact I would say that MMOs in general bore me now. They require too much attention to get any progression.
Prefer the drop in and play style of single player. Skyrim (with a ton of mods) for the win :)

GW2, played both and dont' play either any more.. but it's far nicer looking, plays very well and it feels far more modern and fresh than WoW. Especially if you've played WoW previously.

WoW is the better game. I've played so many MMO's I've lost track. Some good, some bad. But I always return to WoW. In fact I'm playing it right now.

I've always returned back to WoW when I miss a good old RPG as well. GW2 I log on for an hour, see how dead it is and then log off. Good thing it's free because I would never subscribe to it.

Looking forward to the Draenor expansion later on.

Absolute rubbish. Guild Wars 2 isn't dead at all. I've just been playing and there are loads of people on-line.

I have just started to play GW2 again and I am really enjoying it. lots of new good looking updates coming next month to..

I've reinstalled in preparation too - there should be some interesting changes coming, especially the wardrobe system.

For one thing the change to illusionary elasticity for mesmer staff clones is going to be great for my hybrid shatter build! ;)

Neither, WoW is old hat and just not fun anymore if you ask me.
GW2 is fun until you realise your grinding WvW all the time and the gear system is just .. Meh(also they never fix bugs! very poorly optimised)

+1

I played both for long time and also recently.
GW2 was fun for a while.
I was in a major guild on Blackgate server, a powerhouse when it comes to WvW. But it was boring after a while. I am the type of player who can't only pvp, I do both. And there is no endgame PvE progression in GW2.
WoW is the opposite. Played it for years, with a lot of breaks, but it was the same old, every expansion.

You didn't ask about other games, so not going to list any, but just fyi, there are better choices.

GW2 combat system is so underwhelming, it just killed off what little end game content the game had to offer.

I'd say WoW, especially as by the time you will have caught up with the latest content, the new expansion will be out, which should be loads of fun!

Half of me wants to tell you not to bother with either though, because they are both mindless grinds.

My personal opinion would point towards GW2, I find it enjoyable and engaging, its true I haven't tried PvP yet and I am mainly doing PvE with some story elements mixed in.

That being said, and while reading through the previous comments, it may well be that you find WoW more enjoyable, it seems that usually those who like WoW dont like GW2 and vice versa.

However there are exceptions that like both.

Would you mind mentioning the better choices? Serious question, I'd be interested to know.

For PvE players, The Secret World is up there in terms of story immersion -- though the combat can be rather flat and the more in-depth game mechanics pretty obtuse to begin with.

It's a very divisive MMO, but every time I leave it for a while and come back, I end up head over heels for it all over again.

Hmm, well I'm more of a pvp player when it comes to these things, because enemy AI is usually stupid outside of singleplayer fps style games.

I've never really looked at that game though, but will see some videos.

Played wow for years in a high ranked guild. Stopped after Cata and recently bought it again and just leveled up to 90 again.

Played GW2 but found it lacking in lots of ways.

In the end WoW is solid and works, PVE and PVP wise.
