Guild Wars 2

Play.com do a pre-purchase, it even says pre-purchase in the item name and that the send you a box with the serial key in it that you use for beta and live game access. 1-2 weeks delivery though.

Seriously? That would mean it's buy it from arenanet or tough luck as all 3 of the listed UK retailers don't take the money off your card until dispatch. I could live without the beta weekends or 3 day head start but that's extracting the urine.

Edit - Zavvi order history says Guild Wars 2: Pre-Purchase Standard Edition [PC]

God this is all a bit over complicated.

zavvi do a Pre-Order and Pre-Purchase editions. Did you pay £49.99?

I just purchased it from the buy.guildwars2 web site. I have no problems paying £50 for a sub free MMO. I bought 2 copies, 1 for me and my g/friend.

I'll probably ditch my swtor account after 6 month sub is up. Just have this and WoW.

Yeah, you'll have to check if the retailer is offering pre-purchase or not. I think the retailers on buy.guildwars2.com are the official pre-purchase retailers for the edition you want. Anywhere else will be pre-order only, so you won't get all the benefits (just a 'token' 1-day head start).

I don't know how it works with retailers not taking money off you, but I think terms have been agreed with the pre-purchase retailers on how to handle it.

Stolen from another forum:

Like he said, hardly difficult grasp - stop flapping people :)

It clearly says ingame on the official FAQ though. Whether that is for friends lists only or CHAR name also is yet to be seen. Seeing as WvWvW and structured PvP occurs between ALL realms it's yet to be seen whether this will be visible char name also.

The only option i saw and chose was pre-purchase. They haven't taken any money other than the 1p authorisation check thing yet though.

It's a global identifier for, as you say, friends lists etc, the in-game part simply refers to that. There is a similar system in City of Heroes (another NC Soft title) where all communication is handled via a "Global Handle" (mine is @sheriff, for example). ANet have stated that character names will be individual as with other MMO's.

As for WvW, there will be no way to communicate with players from other servers in WvW and PvP and names above heads are all generic (in WvW and PvP), so that shouldn't be a problem.

50 quid???/ You better be worth it

If you pre order does the money go straight from the account or does that happen near release day?

If you pre-purchase then you pay in full right away, and in return you get the serial key for beta/live game access, head start, pre-purchase items etc...

Pre-ordering though means you pay nothing until delivery, and get nothing until the game launches and they ship your game.

Some stores may just have pre-orders, some stores may have access to the keys to allow pre-purchases.

Then you got the Pre-Purchase ;)

I just saw the Standard Edition Pre-Purchase on Play for £39.99 too. There isn't anything that would be worth the extra £10 between the digital and Standard editions (item wise).

Like i said before, i dont feel comfertable pre purchasing something that has no official release date.

for all we know this game could be delayed till next year and ArenaNet would have already taken your money.

As soon as ArenaNet drops an official release date, thats when i will bite the bullet. until then, no chance

Well according to the GW2 group on FB they have a planned Beta at the end of April and 1 in May also, Zavvi has the release as the 18/5/2012, Gamestop (USA) has it has 26/6/12 so i would say go with a summer release.

Looks like our amazon might not be getting the pre-purchase, would explain why it's not up on the co.uk site yet http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/rx4yo/prepurchasing_the_collectors_edition/

I know many of you are disappointed that your local Amazon site isn't offering prepurchases of the Collector's Edition. In order to support prepurchase of Collector's Edition, a retailer needs to be able to provide a digital code at the time of purchase, and then also deliver a physical box when the game is released. We've worked with each local Amazon operation to enable this but at this time many have determined that their systems don't support it. Thus they won't be selling the Collector's Edition prepurchase, and we've reallocated their units to other retailers.
Since individual Amazon markets have different systems and policies, we are fortunate that Amazon France will be able to support the Collector's Edition prepurchase and will begin selling it on April 10.
If you're just looking to prepurchase the game from Amazon and don't need the Collector's Edition, you can still buy either of the digital editions through them. If you're looking to prepurchase the Collector's Edition online, try the alternatives listed here. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/User:Stephane_Lo_Presti/GW2_prepurchase_retailers_list

it would be strange if their system doesn't support it, for SWTOR they emailed me my pre-order code <2min after pre-ordering, and then shipped the game on release day. So it should be possible, the only difference would be payment now instead of payment on release.

Except I can't, because it's not listed.
