Guild Wars 2

DONT GIVE UP THE BETA IS WORKING FOR EVERYONE, IT WAS NEVER BROKEN

The login is not broken, the logout is broken.

Log in to your guild wars 2 account here

https://forum.guildwars2.com/

Go to the security settings.

Clear up your active connections (log out / game crash didnt log you out, hence you were still seen as logged in and couldnt relog).

Now load the game, log in and enjoy.

Nope that don't make a difference either.

Its now worked twice in a row for me, because the game is DCing after playing for a while.

But you can log in and play after clearing up your old connections.

Not always :p
(Been trying it for hours, sometimes it seems to work, sometimes not)

Seems I got pretty lucky, logged in at 7 and have played 5 hours straight. It's fantastic. Performance seemed good, kept shadows on medium and had everything else up. Even in big battles it felt fine, and no lag on the overflow I seemed to play all night on.

PVP felt really good too, had a great 1v1 with an ele, we both went down at the same time and were spamming our last chances! :D

I don't think these screens really spoil anything, but just in-case.

Being chatted up by the dude.. don't blame him.

This was awesome, I aggravated a troll into the fields where a dynamic event with bandits vs farmers was going on. The troll didnt care, he took to smashing the cows!

Could swear I asked this but my post dissappered!

Complete GW2 Noob question:

Is there a good side vs bad side when making a char or does that not apply in this?

Nope, the only time you fight people really is in small games like capture/hold the point and when you do world vs world it's basically your server vs two others.

So treat everyone as a friend!

Have to say after playing for several hours (I'm level 15), that I have massively mixed feelings so far.

Combat is entertaining and dynamic but a massive cluster-****, the effects are absurd in some cases and with more than 2 people its very difficult to see what is going on, this is compounded with multiple enemies. Also this makes it VERY difficult to track what is attacking you at any one time. Playing a class with lots of ground target spells is fine when fighting ground mobs but against flying mobs with the crazy particle effects flying around its nearly impossible to see the little red ring indicated their ground location. Skills also don't seem to have much of an impact, at least as a Necro, the CDs are so short and the effects very breif that I just find myself spamming everything on CD just because there no reason not to, basically there seems to be very little finesse involved in actually using skills. I do like the no mana/energy thing and I REALLY love the ability to run whilst casting anything, remember, strafe ALL THE TIME for MANY WINS.

This "fight for your life" mechanic is stupid, if anything it means you are expected to die which is silly. It also seems basically useless unless you are up against one particularly weak enemy.

The lack of quests is slightly off putting but entertaining none the less, the dynamic events are mostly good and varied and the elite mob spawn events are very cool. However it is rather annoying that to level up effectively without grinding mobs over and over you pretty much have to repeat the same events, which gets pretty dull.

I'm a bit disappointed by the state of the skill system, in that I have to wait bloody ages to be able to use my full skill bar, I'm level 15 and I can still only use 2 of my 3 skill bar abilities and elite skills (8th ability) is still miles off, yet I've got enough points to unlock about loads of skills. The weapon skills are alright however the some weapons seem to have rather random sets of abilities, I've found myself switching between sets more often than I would consider "fun" just because one weapon has 2 really important skills and another has 1 really important ability. The skill unlocking mechanic for weapons can go **** itself as well, it's horrible.

I'm also a bit let down by the story direction, I'm several hours in and I have NO idea what the overarching story is, I've just been pottering about solving crimes and looking for my "poor dead/alive sister". I was expecting something a little more involved due to the premise, i.e Dragons etc.

Graphics wise the game looks great, character creation is very reminiscent of eastern mmo's (anyone else get a big Aion vibe?) however the options are decent and the character look good. Monsters look nice and there is some great variation.

I've only played a necromancer so far and they seem fun, however saying that I'm very disappointed by the fact the minion spells are now set numbers and entirely relegated to the 3 skill bar abilities, they are more of a funny little aside than an actual method of play.

Traits are confusing, I really don't get them so far, the stat boosts seem rather random and the perks you get even more so. Will have to look into them a bit further.

Performance wise I haven't had any lag what so ever, game runs fine and FPS seems fairly steady even in heavy particle situations (aka all the damn time).

Think I'm going to have a crack at playing a thief for a bit.

Hmm, got in and did a bit for 30 minutes and I have to say I like it.

It has that MMO'ness about it but it also feels completely fresh.
Love the idea of NPC's running up to me and telling me to go here and there to participate in random events as opposed to finding a quest give and doing it that way.

Selected Necromancer but not really enjoying it so going to re-roll as something else.

Hmmm, theres a big problem with the CJS keys orders ... they sold US keys in £.

I cant select UK or any european country for my address for the 2000 free beta gems!

Is my copy of Guild Wars 2 tied to my region?

Yes. To play from North America you must purchase a North American copy of the game. To play from Europe you must purchase a European copy of the game. Note that this restriction impacts where you can play from, not which game worlds you can choose to play on.

By purchasing the correct copy of the game, you're supporting the game in your country, and you'll be connecting to your local data center, using your local customer support team, and downloading the correct language support for your country.

CJS keys sold American copies!

Is the gems the only problem that will occur due to this? or come release will CJ buyers be screwed? are you completely sure the service just isn't working properly yet which is why you couldn't pick those?

Completely sure its a US key. When I initially selected an EU server, I was disconnected for a while as it says on the login to move an american account to europe servers or vice versa.

Its definitely an American region, not an EU region key that CJS keys sold me, I cannot set a UK or any european address for my billing details in game for the 2000 gems!

The gems is a huge problem, its the whole cash store thing, you cannot use the ash store at all from anywhere in Europe with an American key!
