Guild Wars 2

One thing im confused about in GW2 is the look of armor you are wearing, from what iv seen in the beta the armor you wear looks really dull and boring. Is it going to be like this when it is released? Or have the purposely done this so you will be pushed to buy cosmetic stuff from the cash shop? Or is the armor sets in the beta just a placeholder?

A lot of the armour people were wearing was the starter sets, plus people haven't unlocked many dyes yet either. In the sPvP area, people started to unlock some really good looking armours during the BWE and if GW1 is anything to go by there will be plenty of different armours available.

What do you expect from starter area armor? for you to have massive dragon heads on your shoulders?

The "cool" armors come later outside of the starting area.

Here are some examples of the "nice" armor during the beta.

Any idea what the source is from that armor above, spvp?

Edit - my dungeon vendor pics are pretty horrible, thought this shield was a neat skin though, pve drop.

I'd rather they kept the Asura and Slyvari starter areas under wrap until launch instead of showing them off during beta, some surprises would be good.

Well if people want surprises they can just not go to those area. But there are lots of people who, like myself, want to be able to see every race before launch so that when launch comes we know exactly what we want to make. For example I thought char looked cool, but it wasn't until I created one that I felt I didn't like their zone or their story that much.

still playing the free trial of guild wars 1 really enjoying it, think im gunna buy it to play through, is the trilogy the right 1 to buy?

also probably a noob question but, i love how you have 2 sets of skills from different chars, is this still the same in GW2?

cheers...

If you want all three campaigns + the expansion, then you want to get Guild Wars Complete Collection, or just buy them separately(they are cheap), doesn't matter what you do.

In the original GW you have your primary profession and your secondary profession, this allowed for a MASSIVE selection of skills which was a nightmare to balance, they couldn't balance it because there was hundreds of skills all over the place.

In GW2 you only have 1 profession, so no you don't have 2 sets of skills, but:

1-5 are your profession skills which change depending on what weapon you wield, you get 5 skills for a 2handed weapon, 3 skills for a main hand weapon like a 1h sword, and 2 for a offhand, like a focus or dagger.
6 is your personal healing skill, all professions have a couple to choose from
7-9 are your utility skills which help you in a variety of scenarios, each profession has lots of choose from
10 is your elite skill, all professions have a couple to choose from.

thanks for the info mate really helpful.

regarding GW1 i just want to do the normal campaign not fussed about the expansions this late in the game, so what one do i need to buy???

cheers...

GW has 3 stand alone campaigns.

Prophesies that is came out first
Factions that came out second
Nightfall that come out third.

You can start with either one.

Eye of the north is the only true expansion.

I found eye of the north (EotN) to be the most fun out of all of GW1. If you're looking to get the Hall of Monument skins you'll be needing it as well.
Also EotN has access to some early heroes that join your team. This makes it so much easier to get through the campaigns.

Been a while since i posted on here. I've pre-purchased Guild Wars 2 as well and took part in the second beta. IT's definately looking very polished although I did bump into a couple of bugs/graphical glitches that i bug reported. So hopefully when they announce the third beta, it'll be far better. Definately looking forward to the game :) I've returned to Guild Wars 1 since as it's relit my fire to get 30/50 in the Hall of Monuments and actually complete all the campaigns (very lazy player :P)

Quickie question though as this thread is over 6'500 posts long. Is there plans to start an Overclockers Guild once the game goes live? And is there one active in GW1 for players working on HoM?

Question for people who have participated in the BETA events.

Are the quests as free flowing and naturally occurring as the game devs suggest them to be? I have read mixed reviews about this with some saying yes and others saying no. Some have said that wherever public quests are taking place are highlighted on the map and you are directed toward them. Yes you don't pick up a quest per SE but people have said its do obviously sign posted that you may as well be picking up a quest.

Clarification would be appreciated :)

Yeh, they are free flowing and naturally occurring in different states. I have been running willy-nilly around the land following no particular path. I always find something going on.

You can go and talk to scouts, they will give u an overview of the near landscape, and any events. Running around, you will get the occasional "there is an event nearby" popping up, telling you your close to something. Also on the map screen, you will see hearts (dynamic events) and skill points.

Its quite easy to run around and find things. You just turn up and join in, then reap the reward :)

The fact you don't have to run up to a guy to get a quest and they just happen around you is the nice thing. It's so free flowing to be able to run over and engage in an event by participating. It is obviously there, but it's nicely implemented.

You see a little heart symbol on the map, these are marked on the world map, as you get close the NPC that is represented by the heart on the map, a list of objectives will appear in your quest tracker, it'll say something like. "Help <NPC's Name> by Killing Bandits, picking Blueberries and placing traps." Doing these (in any combination) will give you progress on a bar that represents your reputation with that NPC, it takes no more than 5 minutes to max this bar (in my experience so far) and this will open up the NPC as vendor to purchase various stuff via Karma, a currency acquired by helping out NPCs to completion.

It's different certainly but it's not really dynamic or free flowing, especially since the map clearly points you towards where you need to go. I can think of much better ways of doing it.

I kind of hoped it wouldn't be signposted at all but I suppose some people (not you two don't take it that way! :p) are too lazy to look and would just sit and whine if they had to explore and not get told exactly where to go. Still a nice change from picking up quests I guess.

Sadly it's a bit over signposted, I would have liked some reward for exploration but it's literally all just given to you on the map.
