Guild Wars 2

Guys, any ideas how well GW2 behaves when moving the install files across one HDD to another? I know I only ever installed WoW once and just ported the folder across multiple machines, but I imagine GW2 may not be so happy.

Reason being is that I'm planning to be putting a new machine together Friday evening, and with headstart on Saturday morning that isn't a whole lot of time to redownload/get patched up again!

GW2 will be happier than WoW. GW2 runs from any folder you dump it in.

Should be side-copy-able. GW1 certainly is. Never tried with GW2 however.

i move it to the raid ssds for each stress test and back out again afterwards to install other mmos and it works perfectly. If you do a fresh reinstall now though your folder will be a few gb smaller than all the incremental updates mounted together over a couple of months. I'll fresh install on Friday.

I built a new machine recently and copied the gw2 folder to external usb, then copied it back to the new machine, no probss.

MoP's Patch was always going to come out a month before release, that's how they did all previous expansions, but the timing of it all just screams panic.

Blizzard rely so heavily on revenue from WoW that a small drop of 30% would cause massive financial problems for them. Why else do you think Activision are trying sell them off. They know there's a **** storm coming.

In saying that though MoP will bring people back for a while, might keep people busy for a month but then its back to square one again. The game relies so heaving on raid content, yet Blizzard can't create it fast enough.

I think that's one place GW2 has them by the gonads, because the game is both a challenge and fun no matter what level you are. You can be level 80 and still go help your mates in starter zones. You will be strong than them, but won't rofl stomp over all the content.

Not this again :p

I don't like wow but why would wow lose subs to a game that doesn't require subs and offers a different endgame experience? They will undoubtedly lose some as happens with every new game launch but most will play both because

A) they will no worse off financially
B) the games offer different endgame experiences.

There will be some clashes and some members Of both communities will be polarised and scream death on the rival but most will play both and enjoy it. As an example the 4 people I know who also plays MMO's are playing both, I'm the odd one in that I'm not :p

Biggest impact on performance other than AA are shadows. Drop em down to low/med and the FPS will increase substantially.

thanks because to be fair the shadows don't really matter that much I think she'll get 60fps on high with low shadows and no AA and to be fair in 2012 that's impressive. I did lol when she tried high on sleeping dogs though.

"Why would wow lose subs to a game that doesn't require subs"

"They will undoubtedly lose some"

Contradictory there mate...

WOW will definitely lose subs. From what I've read and the hype surrounding this GW2 is the most eagerly anticipated MMO of 2012. Regardless of subs or not the game is bound to consume countless hours of time from players that would otherwise be playing WOW.

Granted, not all wow players are going to switch and wow shall still have a massive player base, however if blizzard aren't concerned about this launch then quite frankly they are stupid.

Already decided on some of the ones i'll make.

Main:

Sylvari Engineer

Alts in no particular order;

Asura Elementalist
Human Thief
Charr Warrior

I think that wow will lose subs because people will realise they don't need to pay a premium to get a premium mmo anymore and will happily play for free on gw2 and probably use the £9 saved on something else. also once you join GW2 you can't leave, you're always part of the game, you can always log in and do everything even if you have no money or commitment to a guild to keep up etc, people always pop back to wow to check it out and they will with this for free!

I have just found out that I wont be getting an internet connection till 25th September -I have a virgin usb stick that has plenty of usage on. Would it be ok to use that or will I be locked out of my account due to suspicious activity like it did on WoW?

I did the same with SWTOR and had no issues.

However you will need to download the entire game, unless you are buying retail?

No Its all updated and everything. I am moving on friday so wont have internet connection in the new house until then. For some reason this locked my out of WoW but not really bothered about that really.

How did you find the usage on one of them?

No issues at all mate. Zero lag. Was quite surprised. Plus it only uses a few mb per hour.
