Guild Wars 2

FFS its not letting me on again...sumit like transaction in progress or unable to connect this is shocking all i have had is about 1/2 hour game play lol

I still can't get in! Wouldn't mind, but they had the cheek to send an email this morning telling me the beta was underway. It's bloody well not :p

It may be that your server is full. Once you get to the character selection screen click the 'World Selection' button to see the server list. At the moment my home-server (Desolation) is 'Full' so whenever I go to enter the world with a character it boots me back to the log-in screen.

Knew there would be a hitch to trying to play with the rest of the UK guilds :p

And I can't transfer away to another server for the rest of the Beta because of the CJS keys mess-up... well, not unless I rent a property on the Virgin Islands to route all of my billing through.

Isn't it supposed to dump you on a guest server if that's the case, and then move you back when you're done with the queue?

Edit - ah, I see they don't have it turned on. My server isn't full though and I still can't get on. Login gremlins or just the authentication servers overloaded.

While I've had some fun in PvP, it doesn't seem as balanced as some people have made it out to be, some classes do seem to have a edge

Also it could do with more time between rounds, since while yeah getting a lvl80 PvP geared toon is cool, trying to work out best spells to use in combat ain't fun

And I do agree with some, the combat is abit clumsy at times, to me it seems abit like Tera crossed with WoW combat, but not quiete there yet however with it still being in beta I'm fine with it

So is there any long time WoW players here playing this? I'd like to hear your opinion on GW2 to see if it's anything special/different and will you be moving away from WoW to GW2.

Every other MMO I have played has allowed shift and CTRL combination keybindings. It's quite standard - especially for an MMO with the pretense of having a 'competitive' or 'hardcore' PvP, like this one does. It's a shame because the small-scale PvP system in this game is really promising and seems to be done very well... however the basic keybindings do not support it. Such a tiny thing to overlook!

I'm also still not sure why the Guild Wars games refuse to have player duelling. You'd think for a game that puts player vs player skill so highly at the forefront that they'd provide a way for players to actually practice.

Fair enough. It's possibly something that will be added in the future (I expect so), remember this is only beta.

Also remember most MMOs have at least 10s of skills. On WoW I think I had 36 key combinations bound to skills for most of my characters, some more, some less. On GW2 you need 10 (plus an extra one or two for stuff like dodge if that takes your fancy).

True enough GW2 has a greater focus on less skills and better use of them. But they really shoot themselves in the foot when they expect you to use your 10 selected skills quite literally using the 1-10 number keys. That is not convenient or ergonomic for anyone: even for me on a well-designed mechanical keyboard it is tricky to use keys 6-0 in the heat of a fight. With years of experience in high-level PvP in other MMO's, I've become used to having keybindings that make sense and help utilise greater play. GW2 falls at the first hurdle in this respect. It's a tiny thing to add and they had better add it!

I think the whole Pre Purchase fad we are starting to see is very silly. The retailers don't have the capacity to deal with it. The retailer doesn't know what keys to give out whether its Pre Purchase Keys, Pre Order Keys, Beta Keys, Digital Edition Keys, Digital Deluxe Keys, Retail Box Keys, Collector Edition Keys. The whole pre purchase idea is a concept I am beginning to dislike.

Been playing since 05 and have done most endgame in WoW

I'll be playing GW2, but not moving from WoW

The login is not broken, the logout is broken.

Log in to your guild wars 2 account here

Go to the security settings.

Clear up your active connections (log out / game crash didnt log you out, hence you were still seen as logged in and couldnt relog).

Now load the game, log in and enjoy.

What further adds salt to the wound is the fact that a lot of the mess-ups negatively affect your ability to purchase using the in-game micro-transaction system... another evil in itself. Quite funny, really. I feel like we've all been sold this early Beta access as a clever marketing move, and now we're dealing with a lot of inconvenience.

Staying well away from this whole pre beta weekend pre purchase digital preorder edition special free weekend stuff and just waiting for the final release.

Am I wrong in thinking that all of the zones are also instanced separately? When I went to move from Lion's Arch to the human levelling zone (Queensdale), I was told that the Queensdale server was full and I'd been queued for overflow. I was assuming that they were linked continuously? This game doesn't have a very 'Massive' feeling if you can't transition seamlessly from one zone to another... very disappointed if this is the case.

That would be irritating.

If an "old" MMO like WoW can have a seemless world I fail to understand how a newer game cannot. It was one of my biggest irritations with SWTOR as well :(
