Guild Wars 2

Am I wrong in thinking that all of the zones are also instanced separately? When I went to move from Lion's Arch to the human levelling zone (Queensdale), I was told that the Queensdale server was full and I'd been queued for overflow. I was assuming that they were linked continuously? This game doesn't have a very 'Massive' feeling if you can't transition seamlessly from one zone to another... very disappointed if this is the case.

I thought that I already clearly explained the overflow servers much earlier on in the thread?

When the server you want to play on is full, you get put onto an overflow server. When a space on the main server becomes available you will get a message asking if you want to move to it.

Its not instanced, its just multiple servers with the main one being full, though for me the game would be a lot better instanced - I cant even do a single thing with loads of other people around killing all my quest targets without even being able to reach them to deal one hit.

Using the 1-0 keys as fast as it is required in this game is impossible, and thats coming from someone with grade 8+ piano jazz skills. I believe that the game is unplayable skillfully without something like a naga mouse and maybe an anasi keyboard, but those are hugely expensive.

I do have two thumb buttons and a middle click on my scroll wheel, I wonder if I can at least assign my self heal and two other utility skills to these buttons. In GW1 it was only ever possible to comfortably use keys 1-4 in fast combat, then keys 5-8 were normally used for any non imortant support skills / self buffs / resurrection skill etc. But when relying on a healing build, my main heal would always be on number 3 (WoH / Healers Burst / Infuse health / Spirit Light, all went on number 3 so they could be used in a split second with lightning reflexes).

im level 7 ele my thoughts:
* early game is too hard, i died 3 times trying to stop bandits at the farm.
* the instances are weird tey just feel like your walking into a dead zone , watch a cut scene fight a dude and then leave - im sure their get better but GW1 was never like this.
* combat feels really clunky after Tera ( i keep on wanting to press C to back escape), skill bar limitations are annoying , even by GW1 standards.
* the quest variety is good, but they dont explain enough early game and it was only by level 6 did i figure out what the general flow was. the quest tracking is awful
* world events are cool
* graphics are 'ok' and nothing more, great vistas but i expected more.

i payed both tera and GW2 beta and i think overall Tera has the edge, the only problem is that Tera is not f2p but I feel if it was it would destroy GW2, but im enjoying it and we shall see what improvements they make before release. This has been massively overhyped.

Such a let down, I wanted a Guild Wars successor but this feels nothing like it and isn't as immersive. I remember being involved in the story in GW1, but of course ArenaNet have been promoting ' create your own story ' i.e go to random spawns of mobs and defeat mobs to then defeat the next set of mobs.

The areas are HUGE before you hit a loading screen, but yeah, they're still there. I don't see it as a problem though, it's not likely you'll be going back and forth regularly.

I'm still trying to figure out the servers, there's been a few times i've wanted to play with someone and we can't see each other, presumably we're on different overflow servers but I don't see an option to change which server you're on like there was in the original GW.

How about instead of stupidly expensive and largely useless gaming peripherals... they just add the modifier ability? - like every other serious MMO in existence? Not being able to use Shift+1, CTRL+1 etc. is a travesty.

And yes, the overflow servers thing makes sense to me. It was just a little strange to me that when wanting to teleport from one zone to another, it gave me a message about overflow. I would have thought that once you are logged in to a server, you are logged into one big simultaneous world, right? Instead it seems that when going from one questing area to another you are moving from one instanced shard to another.

It may be that your server is full. Once you get to the character selection screen click the 'World Selection' button to see the server list. At the moment my home-server (Desolation) is 'Full' so whenever I go to enter the world with a character it boots me back to the log-in screen.

yeh tht is mine lol i got in and then went to overflow lol :P

There are problems with the game, but that's mostly since it's the first "open" beta. I've really enjoyed myself so far, and think I've finally decided I suck the least as a Warrior. I think I've found what I was expecting/hoping to find when I played, so I'm very happy with it. :)

You can't use shift or alt modifiers? Are you being serious?

Well I have to say this is most deffinately a beta, reported about a dozen bugs so far.

I'm not complaining, if anything I'm glad, it's nice to see a company release an "actual" beta with pre orders rather than saying "yeah the games basically finished but feel free to mess about a bit before release".

You only have a skill bar of 10 skills.

How is that an excuse for not having keybind modifiers? As you have already said yourself (as a veteran jazz pianist), using the latter 5 skills is very unwieldy using the number keys alone. The small number of skills in this game does not defend against the pretty stupid fact that they expect you to dexterously use all of your keyboard's number keys. It's disastrous for competitive PvP.

Agreed, but overall this has been a poor beta compared to other ones!

Most betas I've played have had similar problems. I know SWTOR did then when you actually got to play it was much buggier.

This game's incredibly popular, having that many people suddenly flood the servers was always going to turn out badly. If you play today it's fine. I've had barely any lag, there aren't many bugs in-game. If the game was released like this, I wouldn't feel we were being given an unfinished product. There's still room for improvement, but they're working on that and I'm sure they'll have a seriously good quality product when it's actually released.

I know this is only beta, but I'm not sure if I like it. Much preferred GW1 to this.

Back to SWTOR for me for the time being.
Hopefully the final release is much better.
