Guild Wars 2

Help Us Stress Our Servers on June 27

We were very pleased with how our servers performed during our second Beta Weekend Event, but we want to gather additional data on how they operate under load before the next one.
That’s where you come in.
All players who have pre-purchased Guild Wars 2 are invited to participate in our upcoming stress test. This four-hour test event will run on Wednesday, June 27th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. PDT (GMT-7).
We won’t wipe characters for this event, so if you played in our previous betas, you can pick up right where you left off. All we need you to do is log in and have fun—leave the stress to us!

How does engineer play?

That's the class I'm wanting to play based on what I have read/saw.

It's quite fun, but also quite tricky to get your head around when you start playing it as like many have said. Once you start playing an engineer, to play one effectively, you have to remember, you're more a support role throwing out conditions on enemies or buffs on allies with the elixir gun etc... depending on the situation. You only get two weapon combo's (rifle or pistol/shield) but thats made up by the turrets and weapon kits you can fit to increase your weapon loadout.

I found the turrets to be underwhelming, but then again. They are only considered to be like little minions adding that little extra damage or taking the heat away from you. You can either pick them up and set them down again to reduce the cooldown timer, or destroy them in the middle of the battle for huge AoE damage but triggers the longer cooldown timer.

The kits are great as each one gives you 5 unique skills. Fit the grenade kit to give you 5 grenade skills. Can't remember them off the top of my head but you can do things like throw frag grenades, frost grenades, poison grenades to cripple or freeze enemies or throw out other conditions. The mine kit lets you place each mine (4 or 5) where you want, detonate each one seperately, or all at once. Flamethrower to burn enemies and create firewalls burning anything that walks through them. But when the kits are disabled, giving you your base weapon skills back. You can activate one skill related to each kit with F1-4. Like the grenade kit lets you throw a bundle of grenades out for standard AoE damage. I think I read that with all the kits equipped, the engineer can have a maximum of 34 different skills in a single build. Thats how versatile the engineer can be.

(EDIT - Also, instead of th kits, you can also select from a range of elixirs that buff a range of stats for your allies, so you can setup into a true support role instead of a more damage role, so you can pick a setup that suits your play style)

Overall. I would say for the average player, the Engineer is a jack of all trades, master of none type of class. But in the hands of a really good player who can bring out the best of the class and use it to it's full potential. It's can be an extremely fearful class.

I hope this explains the class a bit more for you. If not, it's just because I suck at explaining things :P

Have they fixed pets yet so they don't insta-die? I've told myself I don't want to play again til the game's released because I'll want to complete it and I don't want to have learned all the areas before it's even out.

I haven't played the beta but I am looking forward to it.

Is it a hopeful game? So many MMOs have died within mouths I'm starting to loose interest:(

They have put a lot of time and effort into this and the WvWvW PvP should keep you busy after exploring the huge diverse world.

There is no possible way it can fail after a few months like all the recent rubbish.

Like the original, GW2 is not really an MMo in the mould of Lotro/SWG and that other one. It's a more dynamic world with events you can participate in without having to find a group of fellow questers with certain classes ie tank/healer/dps.

You can basically do what you want as you want, with the option to hop into small PvP arena type matches or visit the WvWvW area's and fight over keeps and certain locations.

It certainly is a decent game from what myself and others have experienced in the beta, but I personally don't see it as being the next best thing.

It cant really fail after a few months because they don't need an active subscriber base.

Sums up my thoughts really.

Combat feels fun, world is detailed, visuals are decent, art design is awesome.

Think a lot of skills are underwhelming though, character progression is pretty shallow.

Edit - personal story is really pretty horrible too.

I have decided to pick this game up, but still have a couple of questions

(1) Am thinking of getting the pre-purchase digital edition. Is it best to get this from Arenanet direct (for about £50) or are there other, cheaper places to get it from?

(2) Any ideas whether the client used for the various Betas will be the same (plus patches) as the one on release? The reason I am asking is because my broadband speeds are horrible and hence will take ages to download the client.

(3) Is there an OcUK guild in the making for this?

(4) Did you guys team up at a particular server for the various Betas?

Help and information much appreciated!

1.) I would get it from Arenanet directly for peace of mind, I know some people picked up a cheap copy somewhere but had bad experiances.

2.) Once you've downloaded the client it will keep updating just like the Guild Wars 1 client, some updates are bigger than others but once you've downloaded it you're set for all beta events. :)

3.) Pretty sure there was a big group of ocuk people that played together and had a great time, not sure how they did it though so I'm sure someone esle will tell you more. :p

4.) I think the server most people were on was the "Desolation" server.
