Guild Wars 2

Aghh all this talk of learning has reminded me.

You know throughout the game you stumble across people selling recipes. Well if I buy one and can't use it is it added to an Alts list of recipes who can?

As there is nothing stopping me buying the or 'double click to consume' them.

I've bought recipes on a few occasions and dumped them into my bank for other toons only to find they're soulbound to the character who bought them :(

Not sure whether I am really getting along with this game atm. I gave it a try as I loved DAoC and was looking forward to some RvR again. Seems that all i am doing though is running around to try and knock down the next keep door; over and over again. The thing I loved about DAoC was being able to go in a small group and find similar sized groups to fight but this game just seems to be a massive "zerg" fest. Maybe as the game is new a lot of people are playing so thing will be like this for a while.

In DAoC's early days it was all zergs, mile gate and portal keep camping, give the game chance to mature and as wvw progresses to 2 week long battles you'll start to see more organised small groups roaming.

Specially as the current WvW caps are a mere 166 people per server in each wvw zone, this will be increasing to 500 soon enough :)

Yeah that is what I'm hoping. Ill play some MOP and come back to this in a few months when things are a bit better. Bonus of having no subs I guess.

Spent an hour tonight farming for tier two rare ingredients tonight, was just killing fish in a lake with some other guy, managed to get 22 scales...it's 8 for each higher insignia. They NEED to increase the drop rate, it's massively unbalanced at the moment. You can tell by how much they're going for on the marketplace. My jewellery is on 325 yet my Leather working is stuck on 124, and I started it first!!

There is anti-farm code in the game - the longer you spend farming the same mobs in the same zone, the worse the drops will get for you.

Although as others have said, it's usually better to farm generically and either trade what you get or sell it and buy the mats you need - targetted farming, particularly for crafting totems, is extremely tricky.

Not really - it makes botting or just farming the same area again and again unprofitable, but rewards people who set up more complex farming circuits, especially across different zones. Otherwise you'd end up with a couple of events getting spam-farmed and new players unable to do them properly.

(note: apparently that's still happening, despite being stupid and unprofitable - GG hordes of idiots!)

If people want to farm they should be able to farm.

I get that they want to reduce the grind but farming is part of MMOs.

Ironically it will take a lot longer to farm because you have to travel to different areas making it more of a grind.

I don't mind a little more trouble in my farming if it keeps the bots out and means the proceeds of my own efforts fetch more cash on the trading post.

That said, I'd kind of like it if there was some sort of in-game notification when you hit the 'time to move on' point - a pop-up or a letter or something.

I'm pretty sure there isn't, if that was true I would have got lots initially then it would have dropped off. I saw very consistent drop rates.

Same. I've farmed the trolls for many hours and my drops have had periods of multiple drops and periods of nothing but over the long run it is pretty balanced. So either farming 4+ hours at a time doesn't count as being enough to activate this 'loot-reduction code', or it simply doesn't exist.

I've seen people talk about the myth of reduced drops over time ingame but not from anyone who has actually spent any real time farming, and not a single person I have seen has provided data to back up the claim.
