Might seem like a daft question and one I have checked via a google

What order is Guild Wars in i.e 1st Guild Wars, Factions, Prophecies etc....

I know Nightfall is the latest expansion and think Prophecies is before Factions but I am not sure

Can someone please explain it for a simpleton like myself

However, the next expansion follows on from Prophecies and requires at least one of the current three chapters to play. So if you were getting just one, Prophecies would probably be the one to get.

You don't need to get them in order, they're all standalone.

However the storyline does go in order (timeline and events wise).

One other thing to note is that Prophecies seems to be more geared towards newer players. In Factions and nightfall (moreso in factions) you can hit level 20 in a day, and in turn end up fighting some pretty strong enemies early on.

Prophecies is a much slower leveling process and unlike the other campaigns it awards skills when you complete quests instead of having to buy them, thus giving your character the ability to get some pretty nice skill setups going early on. In factions and nightfall you have to know what you're buying which can be a bit overwhealming at times, even to me (i've completed all three).

So yeah, basically a long way of saying - buy prophecies

only buy prophecies and nightfall. anet dont deserve any more money from factions, theyve ripped off enough people. i loved prophecies and nightfall was a half decent game, but factions is truly the worst game i have ever played in my life and i will never forgive anet for completely ruining any fun that was to be had from guildwars with it.

I would tend to agree, apart from the fact that Assassin and Ritualist are two of my favorite classes (behind monk and ranger), which are both factions classes. Then there is also the fact that the PvP gametype that the largest volume of people play is Alliance battles, also out of factions.

The PvE aspect of factions was indeed a joke.

Man's got a point, alliance battles are pretty fun...
But you might as well play Prophesies, then Nightfall, and only get Factions if you really really want to after you've milked as much enjoyment as you can out of those two. You could even get just the PvP edition, for the skills and alliance battles access, since the PvE isn't much to write home about.

What storyline? All three chapters go something like:
a. ancient evil returns
b. you defeat ancient evil
:p

Perhaps you'd care to clarify just how ANet have "ripped off enough people" with Factions. That bandwagon you've jumped onto left about ayear ago.

I think the problem is, Anets usually incredibly high standards that they hold for Guild Wars slipped a little. Thus all the players, feeling cheated by thier non subscription MMO held thier arms up high in horror.

Despite the sarcastic tone, i really do feel that guild wars has spoiled us a little, there's just too much attention to detail, high production values and frankly, loads of hidden jokes that make me expect so much more from games these days.

lol, the ritualist and assassin classes not to mention the extra skills easily make this game worth it's £10 price tag it's at now. It's not even as if it's a bad game, just not up to Nightfall/Proph storylines.
How did it "ruin any fun that was to be had from guildwars" You hardly have to buy it and it doesn't break the Nightfall/Proph campaigns... Nor do they force people to buy it, simple. Number of people ripped off = 0.

I got the original guild wars when it first came out but after getting stuck on a certain mission I gave up playing and eventually gave my account to a friend. Is it worth getting back into? I like the lack of subscription, but do enough people actually play it? Even if I was to get the first one again I mean.. and then carry on with the story.

No problem with the amount of people still playing. The only place where people are noticeably thin on the ground is the later area of Factions. Anyway, I'm sure an invite to 'The Godless' could be rustled up.

sorry forgot to mention im speaking partly about pve as factions pve really is just that bad.lol but mainly from a pvp perspective. factions ruined the pvp community. any annoying gimmick build that requires no skill to run either involves an assasin or a ritualist. guildwars is an absolutely amazing game to invest in if you like mmorpg's and like playing the storylines. but if your looking for a pvp mmo guildwars just isnt upto scratch anymore. something like pirates of the burning sea or fury should be a lot better. altho i think ill just stick with cs1.6 until anything proper happens.

lol at above post...
I'd say there are far more gimmicky Dervish builds around now than Ritualist ones. And PVP is fine still, I'd far rather carry on with Guild Wars than re-sign up to WoW, buy the expansions and pay monthly fees to wander around an empty land for ages, or worse, find some jerk that'll call me a n00b because I'm not level 70...

It's true that there was a bit of a power-creep in the new skills... It started with Factions (skills like Ritual Lord, for instance, which effectively let you have party-wide Prot Spirit up all the time), but the ugly truth is that it got a whole lot worse in Nightfall! Not that it matters in PvE, which was what I thought the OP was mainly asking about, but in PvP you're pretty much not competitive anymore if you're not packing Nightfall skills.

If i were to hazard a guess, the mission you got annoyed at was Thunderhead Keep? If so, i sympathise with you, that mission was so hard i gave up Guild Wars for a couple of months after about 20 attempts. When i came back to it i managed to complete it first time (mainly through luck), but this is not a problem, because since then they have released a patch that made it a bit easier. Its still challenging, but possible to complete without blind luck.

On the front of enough people playing it - i stopped for about 4 months and started playing again last week. To be honest i'm shocked, there are more new players now than there were 4 months ago, god knows why. The result is plenty of people in the earlier missions to help you out. If you can't find anyone, join a Guild and ask someone to help you out. Feel free to give me a shout if you can't find any guilds - ours is generally open to newcomers.

I'm afraid i would have to disagree with you there, my Ranger and Monk can stand up to any other build including the nightfall ones without any use of nightfall skills on my part. Also on the PvE front i challenge you to find a more reliable heavy damage dealer than my W/E with a perfect cold dmg sword using conujre frost (this build also utterly owns in alliance battles).
