Guild Wars still played?

I'm just hoping GW2 doesn't turn into a clone of most of the other MMORPG's out there. From what I played it did appear that it was 'borrowing' from several well known games.

Thing is when GW came out it was inovative. I fear now it's copying other games.

that's the unfortunate thing, GW as you said was innovative, but the money is in the 'same old same old' wow clones, and as such, GW2 will end up pretty similar.

How can the money possibly all be in created clones of existing games instead of giving people a change from the same old formula?

GW was awesome, GW2 is sounding very skeptical. As if they basically took everything out that made it good and replaced it with something from the standard formula...

Im defaintly getting gw2 on day 1, i play wow now and yeh its pretty good but i still think GW is the nuts and actually the best mmo. Says a lot that even today you can get a mission group of 2/3 people 70% of the time.

The very least i can do to show my appreciation for GW and the amount of free hours its given to me, is buy the second at full price on day 1 - not as if i will lose anything if it doesn't catch my imagination.

Oh don't get me wrong GW2 will be a pre-order purchase for me, but I PRAYING that what I saw @ PAX is not what's released in the final version. But I'm suspecting it will be.. main negative changes from GW1 being..

Mob's/Foe's no longer appear on the radar (al-la LoTRO)
Armour/Weapons having durability (al-la almost every MMORPG game in existance)
Fast travel now costs in game currency
Seperate worlds

Several steps backwards I think.

Its still going to be amazing though i think, also as i followed the story side of things quite a lot in the first game, its going to be great being able to play as different races like the Charr :D

are they really negative though?
* ok radar yes (if it goes through - it could just be alpha code issues)
* durability in weapons/armour now would surely mean theres more of it in different styles - a good thing?
* not so bothered about fast travel really, you would only ever need it to get to a central hub or endgame. the world size wouldnt really make this an issue when questing
*from what iv read the seperate worlds wont be an issue as they are all linked anyway (enabling wvw combat) it is mainly to stem lag.

I'm currently playing LoTRO, and the only thing that REALLY REALLY ticks me off, is the repair bills to armour if you die.

It's NOT really fair to penalise a (not so good) player repeatedly and for large amounts just because you had a bad pull and wiped. I was in a dungeon last night the entire team died twice and in the end it cost more in repair bills, than I made from the drops in the dungeon. And that's NOT something I want GW2 to copy.

And as for 'Wes, yes the game was originally written for DirectX 8 and 9. So of course the graphics aren't as polished. But they're still far far better than WoW's :D

...Technically - so credit to Blizzard's Art Team, because even without a fancy engine they still manage to make every other mmorpg's visuals look boring in comparison.

Via a sensory overload of colour. I remember seeing some shots in the high res thread and thinking "That looks half decent". After looking at the image for a further 2 seconds I started (very quickly) to notice imperfections everywhere. It's eye catching, but not necessarily good looking imo.

The VERY LAST thing I would have said was that WoW's graphics were anything near decent. WoW's graphics are IMHO complete and utter s**te.

Not even worthy of being mentioned in the same breath as Guild Wars.

Personally, I despised WoW's cartoon art style, each to their own in the end, but everything reminds me of a really bad disney movie...

Guildwars has some visually stunning areas with some brilliant reflection of the amazing concept art team that they have.

I guess the Hall of Monuments calculator killed Guild Wars for me. 45 points, I don't need to or plan to do any more.

Great game but they really neglected it over the years.

I'm on 47 points so I'm in the same position, and I was really hoping that having multiple toons with titles would be beneficial..

From what I understand though GW2 won't be left to die like GW has been. Which is a slight relief to me.
