Guild Wars wanting to download 12000+ files

I just reinstalled Guild Wars Prophecies to see if I can get hooked again. The game CDs installed, the client updated (which took a while) and now if I try and load any characters it is trying to download a further 12000+ files. Surely this can't be right? If so at the current speeds I'll be able to play in roughly a week :(

Yep, that's about right. What you could do is add the -image switch at the end of your shortcut. Like this :-

"D:\Games\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -image

That will download and decompress all the files in one go, allowing you to load in any area without the tedious waiting. It may take a while, but in the end it's worth it.

Just remember, when it's finished doing what it does, to remove the -image command otherwise the game won't run.

Yeah, you'll be grabbing all the files needed for the campaigns you don't own. Like I said though in the end it's worth it because it cuts out the loading times in game. :)

If you want any help in the game then by all means feel free to ask either here, at the Godless Forums or in game. My IGN is either Samael Chaos or Triumph Dolosmite, those are the two I mainly play but don't be surprised if I pop up under another name. :D

Well if you've installed from the original discs that were originally released ~2 years ago, then yeah, that'd be about right. :)

But heck, it's worth it.

Sounds about right man, you'll barely recognise the game when you log in! :D You stopped logging in a few weeks before Katsumoto, michaedt, Prodigy and I packed it in and joined Amazon Basin didn't you?
-image was probably unnecessary if you don't have the other two chapters, no point in downloading content for games you don't have...

Yeah basically I spent the entire summer between Uni and my first post-uni job playing, then I was always away with work. I think I racked up roughly 350 hours. Those were the days. You guys still play in Amazon Basin?

Thanks, I think I will rejoin the Godless, as I recokon I'm going to roll a fourth character and run through Prophecies to get myself up to speed, then get the expansions. I did try and join the forums last night but it said something about an in game key?

Also I might hold fire just for now if there is anyway I can sell this abandoned guild hall. Any ideas? I take it you still can't rename guilds?

Lastly, I have a collector's ed. key that NCSoft gave me after an earlier dispute about having a German standard ed. key in my collector's ed. box. If I add it to my account do you reckon it'll give me two more slots like the expansions do?

if you add that prophecies collectors key to a standard prophecies account then all you will get is the divine aura :(

Hmm basically way back when I bought two collector's edition Prophecies, one for me one for my brother. Both had standard keys so after a long fight with NCSoft they gave me two collector's edition keys and said I can either add them to my existing accounts or create new ones. I created a new one ages ago but never used it, and since my brother stopped playing I have another one spare. So basically I have:

1 standard edition account (3 ascended characters).
1 collector's edition account (0 characters).
1 unused collector's edition key.

Oooh the possibilities. Best way of using them? Was thinking of letting my 3 character account lay dormant, any bonuses for an almost-since-release-day old account?

Its easier to let it download the files during a weekday morning, if you try and do it in the evenings the d/l will be restricted by the players hammering the servers.

Even night time is bad since the US players come online, best was about 8-9am, maxed out my d'l speed every time.

Yup download speeds were < 15k most of the time. I have enough now to play Prophecies. Might use the -image switch to get the rest while I'm out, as if I get hooked I'll probably get Factions and Nightfall too.

I'm in XoO these days, not sure about any of the others. I occassionally still see Prodigy online, and last I heard he was still in AB. Mickey got swallowed by RL I think. Katsumoto was last on a few months ago, and I have a feeling he only has time to play during holidays so he might pop up again come June.
TBH with you if you're just playing to have fun a small friendly guild like the Godless is your best bet. It's very hard to get to know people in places like XoO or AB cause they're so big, so it gets a bit impersonal even though there's plenty of nice people in them. I'm only still there cause there's more pvp going on: small guilds NEED you to get pvp going, and, since I'm not on more than 1-2 times a week these days, I'd rather be in a big guild where I know there'll likely be somebody organising a group to do something at any odd hour I decide to log in!;)

Last time I remember Kat and I had a massive trading ring going on that involved buying material cheap, getting them made up into something good and selling them for a lot of dosh. Annoyingly I recall having just bought 30k worth of parchment, wood and other bits and bobs in my inventory and for some unknown reason the price of black die dropped through the floor to only a few hundred g. I could have retired on that windfall if I had the cash :(

I think the reason sU failed because it was too small to be PvP, and everyone got bored with PvE. Godless is probably more my thing for now I think, but once I'm in if you guys are short or just fancy doing some of the missions look me up!

Well, I guess if you offer it for 1/2 of the price of a sigil it'd be a hard bargain to resist (for someone who needs a Dead guild hall that is). Put it on guru or something. Join the Godless or whoever you want to join on your main account and keep a dummy account in there so you can sell it.
