hi guys,

i've recently bought my first effects pedal, a boss ds1 distortion...

simple question, i keep running out of battery after just a few days, so maybe 1 hour of being on altogether... i am using decent duracel batteries so am i supposed to unplug the leads or something to stop it running out of juice while i'm not using it?

i always make sure the effect is off (i.e. the light is off) when i leave it so i dont really understand

Definately get a 9v adapter for it, as you're clearly going to go through batteries like crazy :)

If you are using batteries though, or if you buy a pedal which has it's own internal battery for whatever reason, then yes you should unplug your leads whilst you're not using it.

He speaks the truth. Mod that ds1.

Lots of DS-1 mods available though I wouldn't recommend going at it till you're good with a soldering iron, those boards are easy to screw up as an 11 year old me learnt.

Most pedals will use up battery as long there is a cable plugged in the input so definitely a wise move just to unplug the input cable if you're not using it.

I think he's referring to the fact many people often mod their DS-1s by Robert Keeley/Analogman (most popular) it's supposed to make a big improvement.

Or you could do it yourself for 5 quids worth of bits. :D Only downside is you don't get it full of Keeley's magic beans that make it sound so much better (so glad I don't post on Harmony Central anymore).

hmmm, i'm interested... so there is a mod that you can either do yourself (perfectly happy with a soldering iron i got a degree in electronic engineering) - or you can go to 1 of 2 guys on harmony central to do it for you, and it will be better due to the components they use?

I use all Keeley modified pedals (crybaby, ds-1, ts-9, comp) and tbh its worth it simply for the true bypass. Standard pedals suck up all your tone when they are turned off as the signal is still being directed through circuitry.

I actually have an old ds-1 unmodded somewhere. I could do a comparison of i wasn't so damn lazy.
