Ok I have a plan a cunning plan.

Im gonna buy a standard Epiphone Les Paul, and stick in 2x Gibson classic 57 pickups. Im prolly gonna buy the pups from the states as its a lot cheaper.

Now I will need 2 right? as I think you only get one in a pack. So if I just buy 2 its fine? theres no difference in neck and bridge pickups in the les paul? over all it will work out at £107 for them and its a bargain in my book. Even if I get hit for import tax, who cares.

This guy did the same to his Epi LP, listen too it....

You now see why. :D

Looks like a nice upgrade. I used a Seymour Duncan Antiquity in the bridge position on an old Epi Black Beauty I had, vastly superior sound to the stock ones.

As far as I can see, there is no bridge and neck version of the 57. A lot of pickups do have neck and bridge versions, giving a slighty different sound. An example of this is the Gibson Burstbucker, or the Gibson 490T and 490R (T for treble/bridge, R for rhythm/neck).

Anyhow, i'm sure you'll be happy with the upgrade, anything is better then the stock Epi pickups..(from my experience)

There is a different version for neck and bridge. buy a calibrated pair.

I always say you can't polish a turd though, Epi les paul is what, £300 ? and then £107 on pickups.

Might aswell buy a second hand Gibson for around £500 and you'll actually have a good guitar.

Cant say i agree with you there mate.1st off they are decent guitars, for the money and second i wont find a Gibson les paul for £500 no way, even 2nd hand. You cant tell me that guitar that guy has is bad.

Thats a nice guitar thanks, but Im not really after a lp studio. Is nice though.

I really got my heart set on this guitar and upgraded pups, allways wanted a LP but at the mo cant afford a Gibson, so thisll do.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for both pickups? I cant just buy 2 57 classics from MF?

MF?

I'd advice barknuckle pickups myself, but then you want the gibson ones so probably ebay where somebody has taken them out of their gibson to upgrade.

Why are you so set on buying an epi and upgrading? Surely that's akin to buying a nova and putting a bodykit on it :(

Its because I bought a Gibson SG reissue bass, a few months ago and that knocked me back £900. Im still paying it off.

Its all I could afford at the mo, and the upgrade would be done shortly after buying it. Its my only option really. Im prolly gonna buy the Epi LP and a Marshall MG30DFX amp and pay it off on another finace deal, im that skint lol.

Oh and MF is Musicians friend, in the states... http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/product/reviews/base_pid=306000/rpp=10/

My mother always said to me 'don't buy what you can't afford'

Be content with your new bass save for the new guitar for a few more and then get a proper Gibson?

Don't even think about getting a marshall MG, I'll come round your house and slap you! :p
That's like saying "I'm too skint to buy a car, so I bought a pair of rollerskates on a finance deal" you just wouldn't bother buying the car at all or get a longer finance deal.

Nice bass btw, VERY nice bass :D

Lol, so the amp is rubbish? any recommendation's for an amp, 30watt would do it.

Divine, I appreciate the advice but I can afford an extra £10/15 or so a month going out. I will have the Gibson payed off in a few months, infact I get my bonus from work in the near future, and that should help nicely, I got it down to £700 at the mo.

Just really fancy doing this upgrade, it excites me, heh.

The bass absolutely kicks bottom, by the way, I love it.

If you want to get a really good sound check out bareknuckle pickups

they're UK based (devon) and are extremely awesome! (£200 a pair though, I've got a couple winging their way to me soon)

Check out a Roland Cube, an Orange Crush or a Laney for good small amps.

If you're set on a les paul might I suggest looking on ebay for a company called "burny" they are a subsidary of Fernandes and make excellent Les Pauls - same price as Epiphones but much much much better build quality.

Well I have a few things to say.

First off, I've played ~seven different Gibson Les Pauls. Each of them I've loathed to the bone, on grounds of playability. But one of my friends has just bought an Epiphone Les Paul for £300 off of one of his friends, and they're incomparable in terms of playability. It's just in a different league. Obviously that's down to personal opinion, but several of my friends feel exactly the same.

And about the Gibson Les Paul Studio being a nicer guitar than the Epi Standard, again, I can't disagree strongly enough. Gibson Les Paul Studios are widely regarded to be one of the worst guitars on the market, in the price range. I can guarantee that if you shell out ~£60 more on an Epi Les Paul Custom, there really will be no comparison between that and the studio. For the money, they are tough to beat.

As for pickups, I agree with the advice that's been posted already. :)

Fair cop mate, I've never owned either a gibson or an epi becuase when I was in the market I bought a Burny custom instead. Still has a neck like a tree trunk but I bought this one for riffage and not for solos.

The roland Cube is fine mate.

Thats my only option at the mo, its all I can afford. To be honest they arent that expensive, the pickups will work out around £115 so thats amazing for me.

I'll upgrade the amp eventually, its only for practice in the house. I have 2 bass amps at the mo, im using a crappy squire through them.. feel my pain.
