Just picked my newest guitar.
A local music store recently went out of business and one of the pawn shops here picked up a lot of thier stock. I picked up my newest guitar from that pawn shop for $300. Made in December 2006.
Around 1980 - 1981 I bought an Ibanez that looked just like this one for about the same price (Guessing it was a pre-lawsuit guitar?. It did have a bolt on neck). Black with white trim. This one feels better and sounds way better (I had changed the pickups on my Ibanez to Dimarzios). Don't have that Ibanez anymore though.
Anyway, as soon as I got home I re-strung it and tuned it up and played it (why would I do anything else). It felt incredible. I played it in the pawn shop before I bought it of course (I for it on lay-away), but not through an amp. The sound was awesome! Even on my cheap little 10 watt amp. And it felt even better than before.
This guitar is definitely a keeper. But I will probably change the pickups (I rarely leave anything I buy stock).
I picked a Epiphone Les Paul Standard up off of Craigslist a few months ago and I've been making the interweb rounds looking for what I can find about it. This site is awesome BTW... thanks for the great tool guys...
My EpiLP has the serial starting with EE, which the app tells me it was made at the Qingdao Plant. And I have to admit that I experienced a sigh of relief when I saw the scores from other owners.. I don't know everything about guitars, and to see that the scores were similar to my opinion, assures me that I'm not overrating mine just `cause it's mine. The only thing I wasn't thrilled about were the internals... the soldering on one of the pots is horrendus.
Like the guy a couple up says... If you get a serial starting with EE then all you'll need to do is replace the pickups with something more suitable, I went with some Duncans to keep it true to one of my inspirations, Adam Jones of Tool (I think he has 5 vintage Silverburst Gibson Les'es). Epiphone is now offering a limited edition reissue of the classic SilverBurst that wasn't available when I got my Transparent Black finish. And to be honest, kinda glad they didn't as I probably would have gotten that one instead and mine would probably get made in the alleyway behind the factory by a worker on his lunch break as he teaches the gutter kids how to build guitars.
Besides, I've seen a few pictures other people have taken of me on stage with my LP and in some of them you can see every color of the rainbow reflecting off the body. It takes just the right light and all the stars and planets to line up. But when it does... good lord... it's liable to make a bit of a wet spot in your britches.
But yeah.... if you wade through all I typed up there you'll come to the conclusion that Epiphone guitars made in the Qingdao Plant are positively worth hanging on the wall. I hesitate to say this, but everytime I go to my local shop and play one of thier Gibson LP's I walk away more convinced that my Epi sounds better than thier Gibsons. People I talk to tell me its the difference between environments and other small changes. Next time I take it in to be re-set I'll have to do a face to face because everytime I try to do a distance comparison I run the risk of getting a speeding ticket or in an accident because I just can't get home fast enough to hear what's in my head compared to what comes out of my amp....
Or maybe they'll let me take one of thier Gibsons home for the weekend... ;p
But more straightforward and honest... If you're here it's probably cause you have a guitar made in the same factory and you can rejoice knowing that your guitar is another quality instrument in the company of other quality instruments.
~rock out with your c*&k out~
I have just bought a custom shop limited edition Epiphone Les Paul Custom in Silverburst. It was made at the Qingdao factory in China which is owned and run by Epiphone and The finish is exquisite, the setup is superb, it plays as good as my 1993 Gibson LP Standard; and it sounds wicked. Having played current Gibson Les Pauls my opinion is that the gap between Epi and Gibson has narrowed significantly and is now at the stage where if anyone who wants a Les Paul but can't afford a Gibson - don't worry about the name on the headstock just make sure the serial number begins EE and you'll have a superb instrument.
Well I Get one Epiphone Les Paul, from Korea.
That have extreme nice sound and have extreme nice wooden. But I really need one Gibson.
The Eletric Part of that Guitar isnt so good... but it is a really great Guitar, and here on Brazil that instrument is expansive. that is another problem.

So come on Im happy with it, if not maybes I might swap it when I get to play it, through me amp.. lol. Mofos.
