Guitar experts, help please.

Im gonna keep my eyes open for one of these Burnys in future, seems a fantastic LP copys.

Ok I have the Epi LP and the Cube 30x. I cant touch either until xmas.. sob.

The LP is a limited edition custom shop job, with a weird black cherry quilted design. It was either that or a gold type colour, i didnt like. What do you think? should I keep it or take it back for a sunburst? it is kinda nice. Plus it has a serial number begining with EE, which apparently is good as it comes from the Quingdoa plant in china and they are supposed to make good guitars. Anyway what about the colour?

Nice one! Looks pretty good to me. Do you like the colour? You seem keen to get others opinions on it, but as long as you like it then all is cool.

Bet you can't wait to plug in. Anyhow, looks very nice to me, and i'm sure you'll be pleased with it once you have a blast :D

I do like the colour yes, but I dont trust my opinions. I got the chance to play the guitar and a cube 30x in the shop and it was great. This guitar played much easier than the other and the cube is wow. Very pleased.

Well glad to hear it then! I've owned all sorts of funny and normal looking guitars over the years, here is my current line up:-

My main axe is the Washburn, with the matte green finish (going shiny in the worn areas :D) which some people hate the look of. I like it though!

I also have these 2 lovelys...

Thats an Epi Elitist EB3 and a Gibson SG RI bass. But now Im guitaring as well so hence the LP. :D

It's nice, very vintage style in its playability etc, it has a 3 saddle bridge (cant intonate it properly, but that doesn't matter, looks cool imo), it's Mexican made, but is pretty solidly built and sounds good!

The bass and Washburn cost less then £300 for the pair, which is pretty good when you consider the Washy is my main axe. Don't use the trem on the Washy, it's blocked up in the rear cavity so operates like a fixed bridge.

EDIT Yeah I remeber you posting those in another thread! Very nice they are too! I actually prefer the look of the controls layout on the Epi, bit strange that they're different considering they appear to have the same pickup config.

which apparently is good as it comes from the Quingdoa plant in china and they are supposed to make good guitars. Anyway what about the colour?

The colour is lovely, the fact that it was made in china makes me :(

They make absolutely dire guitars.

Is it Flat-Top too? Doesn't look arched from the pictures :(

My brother's LP is an EE, it's a fine piece of work, needed some tweaking to get it fully up to scratch but as it came out of the box it was still better than I'd expected. There's good chinese guitars out there, just that they're outnumbered 10/1 by garbage. Most of the new Guild acoustics are chinese frinstance, they're miles from dire. Though too expensive.

Well thats a bit nasty isnt it guys?

Trying to put a downer on my new guitar... aah well.

I can tell you this. Its superply constucted, and I played it in the shop and it screams, the pups howl. Its a thing of great beauty.

I know there is some dodgy chiniese epi floating about but im sure this aint one. Check this out...

Epiphone Les Paul Standard - Black

Just picked my newest guitar.
A local music store recently went out of business and one of the pawn shops here picked up a lot of thier stock. I picked up my newest guitar from that pawn shop for $300. Made in December 2006.

Around 1980 - 1981 I bought an Ibanez that looked just like this one for about the same price (Guessing it was a pre-lawsuit guitar?. It did have a bolt on neck). Black with white trim. This one feels better and sounds way better (I had changed the pickups on my Ibanez to Dimarzios). Don't have that Ibanez anymore though.

Anyway, as soon as I got home I re-strung it and tuned it up and played it (why would I do anything else). It felt incredible. I played it in the pawn shop before I bought it of course (I for it on lay-away), but not through an amp. The sound was awesome! Even on my cheap little 10 watt amp. And it felt even better than before.

This guitar is definitely a keeper. But I will probably change the pickups (I rarely leave anything I buy stock).

I picked a Epiphone Les Paul Standard up off of Craigslist a few months ago and I've been making the interweb rounds looking for what I can find about it. This site is awesome BTW... thanks for the great tool guys...

My EpiLP has the serial starting with EE, which the app tells me it was made at the Qingdao Plant. And I have to admit that I experienced a sigh of relief when I saw the scores from other owners.. I don't know everything about guitars, and to see that the scores were similar to my opinion, assures me that I'm not overrating mine just `cause it's mine. The only thing I wasn't thrilled about were the internals... the soldering on one of the pots is horrendus.

Like the guy a couple up says... If you get a serial starting with EE then all you'll need to do is replace the pickups with something more suitable, I went with some Duncans to keep it true to one of my inspirations, Adam Jones of Tool (I think he has 5 vintage Silverburst Gibson Les'es). Epiphone is now offering a limited edition reissue of the classic SilverBurst that wasn't available when I got my Transparent Black finish. And to be honest, kinda glad they didn't as I probably would have gotten that one instead and mine would probably get made in the alleyway behind the factory by a worker on his lunch break as he teaches the gutter kids how to build guitars.

Besides, I've seen a few pictures other people have taken of me on stage with my LP and in some of them you can see every color of the rainbow reflecting off the body. It takes just the right light and all the stars and planets to line up. But when it does... good lord... it's liable to make a bit of a wet spot in your britches.

But yeah.... if you wade through all I typed up there you'll come to the conclusion that Epiphone guitars made in the Qingdao Plant are positively worth hanging on the wall. I hesitate to say this, but everytime I go to my local shop and play one of thier Gibson LP's I walk away more convinced that my Epi sounds better than thier Gibsons. People I talk to tell me its the difference between environments and other small changes. Next time I take it in to be re-set I'll have to do a face to face because everytime I try to do a distance comparison I run the risk of getting a speeding ticket or in an accident because I just can't get home fast enough to hear what's in my head compared to what comes out of my amp....

Or maybe they'll let me take one of thier Gibsons home for the weekend... ;p

But more straightforward and honest... If you're here it's probably cause you have a guitar made in the same factory and you can rejoice knowing that your guitar is another quality instrument in the company of other quality instruments.

~rock out with your c*&k out~

I have just bought a custom shop limited edition Epiphone Les Paul Custom in Silverburst. It was made at the Qingdao factory in China which is owned and run by Epiphone and The finish is exquisite, the setup is superb, it plays as good as my 1993 Gibson LP Standard; and it sounds wicked. Having played current Gibson Les Pauls my opinion is that the gap between Epi and Gibson has narrowed significantly and is now at the stage where if anyone who wants a Les Paul but can't afford a Gibson - don't worry about the name on the headstock just make sure the serial number begins EE and you'll have a superb instrument.

Well I Get one Epiphone Les Paul, from Korea.
That have extreme nice sound and have extreme nice wooden. But I really need one Gibson.
The Eletric Part of that Guitar isnt so good... but it is a really great Guitar, and here on Brazil that instrument is expansive. that is another problem.

So come on Im happy with it, if not maybes I might swap it when I get to play it, through me amp.. lol. Mofos. :p

The colour is lovely, the fact that it was made in china makes me :(

They make absolutely dire guitars.

Is it Flat-Top too? Doesn't look arched from the pictures :(

It seems quite flat across the body if thats what you mean? I can take some pics if you want?

Looks like a carved top to me, seems quite clear in the top picture. Anyhow, if you like the guitar then who cares what anyone else thinks!!

I reckon it looks smart, playability can be tweaked as you like it, and the pickups can easily be swapped for a future upgrade if you feel it necessary.

When I see pics of Jimmy Page playing his cheapo Danelectro, just shows you can make and play some fantastic music on 'bad' guitars...

I heartly agree Tk7, I will as eventually stick a couple of Gibson classic 57 pickups in there.

The build is lovely and feels very well done. I love me new guitar. :D

A bit more info on the awesomness of my guitar...

Theres a guy on youtube with epi customs and standards with burstbuckers and all sorts of other gibson pups in his epis, I think he has at least 10, he may have the pups in your after, I nearly bought a zakk camo epi custom with maple neck and emg,s for 369 new but in the end I decided after playing one the frets and rosewood was not for me which ruled out a Gibson les paul classic or studio, As much as I wanted the les paul tone I ordered a American ASh HSS strat with maple neck, I really did the Strat but love the Gibson sound. Trouble is I doubt mine will be under the tree before christmas

Theres this guy with an Epi standard and Gibson 57 classic pickups in...

Thats what I'll be doing after xmas.

Hope you get your guitar, real soon.

Thats a nice colour Jimbo, I like the epis, they sound almost as good as a gibson les paul although there pups are not that great. and for what you pay you get a real nice guitar, esp as it has binding, I dont think the frets have as much work done as a gibson les paul but they are not bad and you can get a brand new cherry sunburst standard for £220 great value guitars from a Gibson owned company. I may still get a epi just for the sound one thing I did notice the epi is lighter and thats a good thing, may not have as much sustain but some less pauls weigh a ton.
