Guitar feedback control

Hey guys,

anyone have any tips for controlling feedback? I dont mean the ear piercing, cat strangling kind you get when stading too close to your amp, but the nice shimmering kind you get when you hold a fret with lots of volume and gain!

you mean sort of the slight oscilating sound you get? i'd like to know about this too

but also i'd like to know about controlling the cat screeching sound too! becuase i get that problem with my amp i have to stand about 5m or more away from it when i put it up "loud" [

A variety of different things can add to the feedback problem - high gain amp, poorly shielded pickups etc. One of the easiest ways to stop the bad feedback is buy a noise supressor pedal, something like the Boss NS-2. It will stop the signal cycle from the amp/guitar/amp/guitar... when the guitar isnt playing anything.

As for the "good" feedback, check out this following page for some good advice

I love feedback and use it constructively to lead into/out of solos, go from song to song etc when playing live..

so the NS2 should be before the amp? not part of the effects loop?

I think you can do it both ways, but for optimum usage before the amp is the preferred method.

You definitely should check out the Boss Guitar Effects Guide Book here: http://www.bosscorp.co.jp/PRODUCTS/EN/NS-2/brochures.html, there are some really decent hints'n'tips for getting the best from your effects, for example:

Check out Ted Nugent for feedback control. I've never come across anybody who can do it like him and most of it is down to the Gibson Byrdland he uses.

It's the main/Japanese one although it's in full English (www.bosscorp.co.jp), yes the Boss US site is not so good, is it

I suppose Gonzo live would be the best choice. I know he had little x spots on the stage so he knew exactly where to stand to get a certain feedback.
