Guitar Hero help

Hi all, I'm playing through Guitar Hero Metallica at the moment (this is my first GH game so bear with me), and I was wondering what the number in the star to the right of the star power meter means? Apologies, it doesn't seem to be in the manual....

That's you're current star rating for the song. The max possible stars is 5

The more stars you get per song the faster you unlock stuff
