Well I've been playing Guitar on and off for a few years (Probably more off that on)

I've started to play again recently but I seem to be stuck in a bit of a rut and dont seem to be getting any better

Do you think getting lessons would help? Or is there any free online tutorial things that I could have a look at?

Cheers
Chris

Lessons, if you have a good teacher are well worth it. Not only can they show you to best ways to expand your playing knowledge, particuarly of different styles, but they also inspire you greatly.

My old teacher was fantastic, taught me how to play things I wouldn't of normally considered. And was also by far the best guitarist I have ever met. Apparently he had his first gig at 10 years old

There are definately "ruts" I found learning guitar. I've never had lessons, but I bet they would definately help. When I got frustrated, I used to change totally what I what I was playing, like start on some blues, learn a specific band new song, write a song, learn pinched harmonics etc. Lessons would probably be the best bet to improve your talent quickest, but theres a couple of other options for you.

Thanks for the advice guys.
I do get frustrated when I cant do someting and thats what makes me put it down a dont play for a while.

For example i saw a video the other day on here of someone plaing that Canon rock so I thought I'd have a go an learn it but I'm struggeling trying to do pinched harmonics and its starting to get to me :(

Think its probably best to find a teacher. Roughly how much does it cost per lesson?

I think the current musician's union rate is about £24 (or so it says on the website of the teacher I'll eventually get round to booking lessons with).

omg £24 Is that for an hour?

Any one know of any good websites that i could get some help from coz I cant afford that much :(

That's all i have found so far. I have just started playing myself after a couple of years away from not playing. That first exercise is killing my fingers, lol.

Mark.

My old teacher charged the price of £15 an hour. He didn't have any qualifications as such, but it was irrelevent really. Your best bet is to check adverts in your local music shop.

Yeah, that was the guidline price for an hour. The teacher in question was charging £22 (I think) an hour, and was RGT approved and had all sorts of qualifications etc. I think teachers without those qualifications would probably be cheaper (though not necessarily worse). ;)
