Hi,

OK I have decided to get myself another guitar after 2 years without one, I would consider myself a learner as I wouldn't even remember the basic chords anymore.

Anyway have decided to get a Yammy Pacifica 112vcx but don't really know what amp to go for, it will only be used for practising at home and the occasional jam session at my mates.

I was looking at something like the Line6 Spider IV 75 with all the built in effects etc but didn't know wether it would be better to get a cheaper basic amp and add a POD?

Any input welcomed.

I would stick with a basic amp - you don't really need ALL of the fancy effects. Since you're learning, those effects could be a distraction from figuring our YOUR basic amp settings (they differ according to preference). Try a Crate or Austin Bazaar. A Marshall is way too expensive at this point and mostly used for concerts. Fender might be appropriate tho since they have some that can be used at home and for entertainment when you're ready to make that groove.

You don't need a 75 watt amp for home playing or practising. A 15 watt would do that fine, and you'd be able to turn it up louder without shaking the floorboards.

Stick to a Line 6 but smaller wattage.
Others will recommend VOX, Peavey etc but they are all much of a muchness.
Don't mess with the effects too much and just dial in a preset sound you are happy with because it does make a massive difference when you're hearing something nice coming back at you.
You could alternatively buy a Line 6 POD Studio and run it through your computer.

The reason for the 75w Line 6 is that has all the artist & song presets but the lower watt versions do not :(

I had a 15w Marshall before and that was plenty loud enough but didn't have the presets and the distortion was not to my liking so I added a Boss DS-1 which was much better.

Just want some flexability with sound, as you say it does make a difference if you get a nice sound.

Are the Pod Studios pretty good then?

Marvellous - I use this one in the house - http://line6.com/podstudiokb37/
I've also got a POD and Floorpod somewhere.
On stage I use Marshall.

You've got to decide what you really want.
A POD Studio will give you loads of sounds through a computer with visual software but a 75w combo will give you the flexibility if ever you join up with mates.

I have a pristine Roland Cube 30 which has an array of built in effects and presets etc... I'll be looking to sell it soon as I've been exclusively playing acoustic for >year now- get in touch via trust if you're interested at all :)

Thread can get back on track now as desired! :p
